Leave them alone. It is not US's bussiness in the first place. If anything need to be sort out, UN has the responsibility.

It's probably time to either raise our flag in
Baghdad, or come home.
Because this dribble approach we're using,

If I were Bush's political advisor I would tell him the following:

1) Bush has to talk to the Iraqi people (not to the Iraqi government) directly and ask them to come forward and make demands for discussion. Talk 'to the Iragis' not 'talk about them' on the news. The Iraqi people seem to have been out of the equation completely and they don't like it as the local government doesn't seem to represent them.
2) Establish communication channels with the militias and the insurgents leaders
3) Try to agree on a cease fire to stop the violence and let the US pull out gradually
4) US and other local governments will not tolerate a fanatic religious alqeda goverment
5) Change of government may be necessary to have a balanced representation for Suni and Shiattes.
6) establish communication with Iran and Syria and agree on one strategy instead of just pressuring them and accusing them.
7) adopt the European Union economic model of expansion in Eastern Europe using Arabic contractors not US contractors to show good intentions. i'e being out there to build and help and assist. The insurgents will not attack a new hospital being build for them for example.
8) Rebuilding the mosques and the holy places and to protect them - that will make the Iraqi understand that their religous beliefs are being respected.
9) bring back the Museums articrafts that were taken by the Israilis and US back to their locations.

I think the question is becoming what is the best exit. Seriously, I think we should finish up what we originally planned. We have too much invested in this endeavor to simply quit. I liked the question I saw on "Answers" earlier. "Why can't we get out of Iraq as easy as we got in?"

Don't force your policies on the West Asians. They have a different approach, study them and apply them.

You make more friends, when you trust in them to clean their own homes out without a high pressure hose aimed at them and dousing them, thinking that you are cleaning their dirt out. Your idea of dirt may not be dirt in other places.

Pork is unclean to the Jews and Muslims, but it is tasty to many others. Does that mean everyone should consume it?

Let them in the Iraqi government do the job, don't spoon feed them the American brand of government. One man's meat is another man's poison.

After all, the Americans did throw out the British brand of government in 1776. So why should the American government think that their brand is THE brand of excellence.

I think we need to stop fueling the fire. We need to make as little of an effect on iraq as possible. If things get completly out of hand, we need to step in, but not control all of the governments affairs, or we'll never get out.

Iraq is not set up for democracy. We need to stop forcing our views on them and let the chips fall where they may. Over time, things will settle out, and as they do, maybe a stable government will form, if it does not, THEN we can help.

We(the US military) will never be able to "fix" Iraq. There are too many insurgents in Iraq, and the ones that come from across the border in Syria. Our best bet is to train the Iraqi military and police, and let them take over from there. Unless we have enough troops to sweep though every square inch of Iraq to get everything, but that is impossible.

I think it's embarrassing that a country as mighty as ours is having such a difficult time with a piss-ant country like Iraq. I think we're missing the ball by not planting our flag in the middle east for the sake of being "the nice guy". Not only would this give us a strong hold strategically but hey, wouldn't it be nice if we had some of that oil? I thought the message we wanted to send was that if you mess with the United States they we'll squash you like an insignificant bug. Who would fault us for that?

Cat's Eye
Pull back to the borders and keep the influx of terrorists pouring in from Iran and Syria to a minimum.

They've had 3 elections and there's some fighting between the Shiites and Sunnis, but it should settle down in time. I think we should be tolerant to the Iraqi people as well as patient. I think they're making progress even though I wish they were faster at getting their forces trained and ready to defend themselves.

Interestingly, things can work out in time if you keep at them. Look at the Bosnia war that started in 1992. Clinton said it was over in 1995, but there's been lots of violence going on for the last 10 years. Just the other day I read news of some real progress on reaching peace in that region. I don't think we're pulling out yet, but it's a good sign of progress through patience.

I think that we need to finish the war, whatever it takes. There's no point in starting a war if you just run away before it's over.

The best approach, I have no idea. With no strong leader to control the Sheas (sp) and Sunnis(sp), Iraq is ripe for civil war. And the outside influences are not helping, but stirring the pot. In my opinion, we have to finish what we started. How we do that, I don't know.

ok i know i am going to receive tons of hate mail for this but i am going to stand for what i believe in and be honest. i hope that as adults you will accept and value my opinion as mine..... but if you dont then just know that this is how i feel and i wont change my mind.

answer.......... i think given the first information that the call to war was a good call (hindsight being 20 20 cant count since it wasnt available). from what i know now(after the fact), i probably wouldnt have supported the war, but we cant turn back time we can only go forward. now since we are in war (good call on bad info), i think it is too late to change our minds. too much has happened for us to say oops and walk away. these people REALLY REALLY HATE US NOW. just yesterday i came across someone on here that was asking how to get a visa and 3 hours later asked if wipping out all americans would be best for all of planet earth. i feel really bad that all this happened but they are not hiding the fact that they want to reetaliate in a big big way.

i am not sure about you but when very angry men show up at my door with a death wish and tell me that they want my family dead to revenge their fallen,,, i dont open the door and let them in.

to leave now and walk away is to do just that. until we can do something in iraq..like rebuild and make the streets safe, we have no business leaving.

we were wrong........ we need to see this through and help these people get their lives back together. until we can offer them hope, they will not give up their anger.

AGAIN... I AM SORRY FOR THOSE THAT WERE HURT BY OUR BAD INFORMATION AND I'D PERSONALLY MAKE IT ALL BETTER IF I COULD........unfortunately i dont have that power.

Keep handing over more responsiblity to the Iraqi National Army while slowly pulling out more US troops over the next 2 years & have all US troops out by early 2009. Iraqi National Army will take over & quickly sluaghter the minority Sunni insurgents/terrorists. War will be won, terrorist dead, Democracy saved in iraq. Simple.

We need to talk more about victory than we do about defeat. This crap about "one last try" is exactly that; crap. There is no try. There is only do or do not.

This country should never agree to commit troops, and not be willing to at least sustain support for those troops and their mission in the Congress as well as the Oval Office. Congress can't say that the President took us to war recklessly, when most of them voted in favor of that same war. If we go to war, we need to have it in our head that we must achieve our goals. There is no such thing as "peace with honor". That's called defeat where I come from.

This conflict, and any other conflict that we engage in from now on will be fought as much in the theater of public perception as it will on the battlefield. Therefore, we can't have our Congress handing the enemy talking points, or have our press giving terrorists face time without clearing it through our intelligence people. Too bad if they don't want us to question their patriotism, because it looks questionable to me!

And we can't make unreasonable demands of our troops like tell them they can't shoot back at people in Mosques who have already desecrated that Mosque by killing from within.

It isn't rocket science.
