I think this question is outragious !!!!. My son went to Iraq when he was 19, nobody gave him a choice !!!!! He joined the Army at 17 and knew that when he joined there was the possibility of conflict. I sat through months of news reports and and waiting for the telephone to ring, I think in this century it's disgusting that one Family, the Royal Family, still think they deserve such privilage. Stand on the line Mam with the rest of the UK and wait for your loved ones to come home !!!
If the war is appropriate and just for the UK then all in it's Armed Forces should bear arms, NOT JUST THE UNTITLED !!!!!!!!!

He shouldnt go. Havent we (& he) suffered enough losing Diana? We dont have much left of her apart from Wills & Harry, lets do what she wouldve done and make sure they carry on her name and good deeds.

The royal family get a sickeningly large amount of privileges as it is. I feel this is one privilege that they should be without.

No bring all our ( British ) military personal home and then send out the whole of the labour party and let those bunch of idiotic liars get killed, after all i doubt if no one would miss them if they did and they would be doing us all a great favour, the Iraq's and our government are both a total waste of time as they are both completely and utterly stupid and a bunch of festering matter.

No he shouldn`t. He can`t help who he is but he`s got prestige target written all over him, and this is also going to affect his close comrades. Madness to send him. Respect to him for wanting to go..Send Blairs little brats instead, then that smug grin might disappear.

He would be a risk to himself and his colleagues but as he is trained soldier he feels that it is his duty to go, just like any other soldier.

I dont think Harry should go. I hate this war, dont think we should be there in the first place. Harry going puts his colleagues and himself at greater risk. I dont want to see him being tortured or having his head hacked off on the web or on the tv. If he goes they will get him - there is nothing surer - their will is greater than ours to protect can ever be.
We have buried his mother prematurely, lets not bury what ever is left of Harry - admirable though his bravery is.

Is it classed as a job or a mission ? Killing people? Harry should stay home. If he goes and is killed, hell will follow.
We search for so-called peace but some people get crazier day by day. Personally I don't believe we will ever find world peace, though I'd like for it to be possible. The problem Is that some people are greedy and can never settle for what they have got!

No he should not go as he puts the rest of the soldiers in danger. Being 3rd in line to the throne the Royal Family should have more sense in not sending him.

Things seem to have gotten off topic. Although I think the idea of world peace is great it is just that, an idea. We will forever have enemy's that want to destroy our way of life. To passively stand by and watch these events unfold is suicide. But i do agree with the idea, and think the prince should go if he pleases. He is intelligent enough to know the risk he will be facing.

it would send out the wrong signal. he wants to be treated just like the rest of the troops. he doesnt want special treatment. so if they are going to iraq i think he should go too. Yeah diana probably wouldnt approve, but it would be something she would of been passionate about, helping the people in iraq.

It poses a risk to anyone when they come to Iraq. Come more than others, obviously.
Prince Harry joined the army specifically to come to Iraq. If they're not going to let that happen, they should have told him that from the get-go.
If he wants to come, which he clearly does, he should be able to. There isn't a leader worth a darn who would rather sit in garrison while his men are at war.

Sure, it would send the wrong signal. Therefore, Prince Harry should *not* go to Iraq- no one's child should.

I'm not a member of the armed forces. However I believe it poses a security threat for the Country if he be sent to Iraq. Though other princes have gone to the frontline in the past, at those time, terrorists were not so careless of life as this animals are. They will use this opportunity to their benefit and they will succeed. I do wish that the army chief will change his mind or rather give him an office post where he won't be in the frontline.

seeing as his regiment are there, without a doubt he should be. He wants to go and lets face it people joining the force's are expected to fight and it would send out all the wrong signals if he didn't go. Whether we should still be there is another matter

If he wants to go, he should be allowed. But as the other person said, "No one should be going to Iraq."
The wrong singal? No. It would send the right one. The British are not stupid and will not send a prime target to his slaughter.
Yes, he and his troops will be slaughtered. I was a member of the armed forces and served in SWA as a Combat Military Policeman. I was in the US Army for 9 years.
I think we Americans are stuck there forever.

Hello
|
If you were an American soldier, would you want to be ANYWHERE near this guy when Hell rains down on top of you in the terrorist search for this 1 guy in uniform, because EVERY terrorist and insurgent in Iraq and probably AFGHANISTAN will pool all thier resources into finding him - you can count on that?
Allies or not.. you watch for a MASS exodus of U.S. troop out of Iraq.. same as in 2003 when they withdrew 77% of thier troops out of AFGHANISTAN - the REAL SOURCE of this war on terror !!!
Just THINK about it ppl...
In answer to YOUR question though, it's a difficult conundrum.
It goes without saying that his presence there WILL put added risk to himself AND his colleagues - simple as ! FACT !!
However, as he says, why would he put his "sorry ars*" thru the arduous Sandhurst Officer training if he didn't want to "lead his men" where-ever they may be sent by the politicians and high-ranks behind thier cosy desks in the wonderfully refurbished Whitehall Offices - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6240635.stm (at least HE will have adequate and proper body armour that will do the job it's supposed to do I suspect.. ;-) !!)
I think he, like the rest of UK troops are being used and abused by our Govt all in the name of spin, and, although he still only a very young man, I think he should be allowed, along with all other recruits out of training - be they officers or O/R's to get some experience under thier belts first, and god knows, we are stretched all over the Globe in plenty of unsavoury theatres.
I understand UK have got themselves in a pickle as regards to recruitment numbers being down, and having to churn the cannon-fodder out into the Theatre of WAR long before these YOUNG men are fully prepared and ready.
By way of a message to Harry, This is NOT the Falklands where your Uncle Andrew fought with his men.
THERE, BOTH sides had the decency to wear a uniform so it was easier to tell who was who - unlike what we are going thru today with these cowardly terrorists - who use children and women and other vulnerable men to do thier evil on innocent humanity all over the world.
Maybe as a compromise to save political and military face... ;-) He and his men could be sent to another conflict zone by way of building up his experience, which would give him the satisfaction of "doing something to make the world a better place"..... ;-)
Any soldier or service personnel who puts on that green uniform never KNOWS what is going to happen to him/her that day by the very nature of that action.. be they returning to Barracks on the streets of London having come off duty from standing outside his Granny's House.. or riding down the streets of London on a horse... or going out those gates in Afghanistan or Iraq.
Simple as !
THAT is the very nature of terrorism.
A whole different ball-game to what his Uncle went thru in the Falklands.
He's young, and following the PR and spin machinations.
Fair play to the guy... BUT.. there are other lives on the line here whether he wants or not...

Prince Harry wants to go to Iraq ? Oh really ! I think Harry wants to go to Iraq safe in the knowledge that the powers that be will ensure that he is not placed in a position of potential danger.
OK, it could be potentially dangerious anywhere I guess but some patrols etc are far more dangerious than others.
In addtion to this, would he not become a prized target of the insurgents, I think he would and I also think that he will place his squad in even greater danger, not only will they be at risk of being killed or injured because good old Blair is stuck up George, but now they risk all in order to protect Harry.
It's not on !
I served in NI and would not have wanted to go on patrol with anyone who attracted that much attention, the jobs hard enough as it is.
So, Ten out of Ten for commitment and guts Harry but do everyone a big favour and stay at home.
That or go but ensure you do not place others in a postion of greater danger than they would have been placed in if you had not gone.

In principal, yes. In reality no.
If he were to go he would be a security risk to all of those working around him and protecting him would be a distraction from the extremely difficult job our soldiers are doing out there.
Like all soldiers he should do as he is told and if they have any sense at all his bosses will not send him to Iraq.
