Screwball	I know a few marines, I see them at freeway exits with signs that read "Viet Nam veteran, please help." I have talked to them, some are mentally ill and some are missing limbs. If one is going to sacrifice his life it should be done for a just cause. Pretty soon their ranks will swell with marines coming from Iraq. I have much respect for American's serviceman, but with all the known facts and all the known unknown facts, no one with a clear mind would enlist in any of the armed services at this point of time Once this fraud is over and the criminals responsible are put away, then I would say that the best reason would be to improve yourself as a man, learn newskills and to serve and protect your beloved country. BRW	Hello Max. I don't think that getting a college education paid for is a bad idea. I think that someone with a strong sense of patriotism and self sacrifice for his country and fellow Americans, would be willing to join and serve his country. Now I'm not saying that's why everyone joins but that's a good reason. Here is some more reasons: Life career, full retirement after 20 years, full health care for life, you would be in the best shape you have ever been in, you would know self defence and be able to shoot a wide variety of weapons. soljah67	Marines are usually the first in line at war. To me if I was to join any forces I would be in the Marines. If I didn't want to be the first to defend my country, why sense even join the military? They have the best training as well. Marines also have air, ground, and some water. Unlike the others whom just specialize in just one. I personally don't like to take orders like a robot, therefore I will never join any military force if I didn't have too. Mrs. Jent	you can get more women being a marine then any other man out there. you get better benefits and any woman will marry you (of course, that COULD be a downfall) but since he up there, stated most if not ALL of the reasons... you should be good. oh and HEALTHCARE, oh the wonderful health care... and the pride... man there is NOTHING like a USMarine.... it makes all the girls shiver and all the guys want to BE YOU. John T	DanKohner: In the spirit of the Dawg himself, allow me to say: SHUT YOUR PIEHOLE! The question was good reasons and USMC. It had nothing to do with interservice rivalry and you can't even spell IED. And allow me to say, as a soldier, the Air Force does nothing like a Marine, nor like a soldier. If either of ya'll are ever in the SFO area and need a hot, a cot, or a cold one... you know who to call, right? I have just one to add to the list... the MARINE CORPS FAMILY is the best there is... My son knows that I have Marine Parent connections all over the US.. if he's ever stuck (like he was last year with a blown transmission in the middle of nowhere and with no money...) he just has to give me a call and an hour later I'll have another Marine Parent riding to the rescue.. and we know we'd each do the same thing for any of our Marines!! <3	to challenge yourself and push yourself to limits you never thought possible. to know what hard work is and to accomplish it is an amazing feeling. overall you'll become a better person especially after boot camp. you'll most definately be physically fit. and benifits are awesome. and you get to serve your country as a Marine, which is supposed to be the best out of all the other military branches. people will look at you and think "wow how cool he's a Marine, he must be tough, so strong, responsible, respectful, and hard working" . WCSteel	All military service is a good idea. I was in the military for 8 years and If I wasn't injured I would still be in. I have traveled halfway world and met some of the greatest people currently living and have had more experiance than you will ever get in a 2 or 3 lifetimes without military service or a large trust fund. forgivebutdonotforget911	If you are going to join to fight, the Marines is the place to do it. A higher percentage of Marines actually fight as compared to the other branches of the military. If you want to carry a rifle and fight on the ground, the Marines have a higher standard to get in and are held to a higher standard to stay in. (The US Army at one time had to dumb down their training manuals into a "comic book" format because their troops were pretty low in intelligence.) Also, once a Marine, always a Marine.
