Just say your going to Alabama to help a family friend, but then go to Texas, snort all the coke, and drink all the booze you can find. Then in 30 years you can become President of the United States. Just ask George, that's what he did.

LIFE

I went AWOL in June (I graduated BCT and was medically discharged from Airborne school prior to going to AIT) I remained AWOL for 76 days, where I than turned myself into the MP Station at Fort Knox. I stayed at the PCF (no, not jail...just barracks really) from Tuesday night till Friday morning, where I and about 30 other people were given a bus ride to the bus station / airport. Most of those people received an Other Than Honorable Discharge (even the ones who had been apprehended.) I personally wrote a statement to have my discharge, which my request was honored. Note: This seems to be a rare occasion, I believe I thank graduating as soldier of the cycle and turning myself in for this upgrade.
While I was a Fort Knox, I met people who had went AWOL during BCT, during AIT, from Korea, people who never went to BCT, after AIT. So from my own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, it seems that as long as you do not have orders to go Iraq/Afgan...then the procedure is as easy as mine. However, if you have orders...that's an entirely different situation.
The only jail time you theoretically spend is if you are caught by the police (no, they don't go man hunting). In which case you can spend I believe up to 30 days in jail waiting for MPs to pick you up. However, everyone I met who had this happen to them spent only 1 - 2 weeks.
(I contacted the website believe prior to turning myself, everything they informed me of was 100% accurate in my situation.)

Please tell me you're kidding.
You have no idea what you're getting yourself into.
Probably Canada won't accept you. They have some requirements because of all the wimps who skipped this country before. You won't be able to use your citizenship because you don't want to give yourself away.
If you stay here in the US, you won't be able to get a job here in the US... same reason. You'll vote in every election for the winners... because you won't be able to vote yourself.
If you ever run afoul of the law... for any reason... you'll be up the creek.
Where would I advise you to go? Your command. Get it out of the way. You'll probably get in trouble, But it'll be behind you. And, you'll be out of the military.
Of course, you could go to Mexico and then sneak back and be an illegal alien... then the government will take care of you.

...um...if you go AWOL...you realize you have to turn yourself in before 30 days or it's desertion?
AWOL is not as bad desertion. I have no idea what problems you are having but the only people that I knew who ever went awol were being harassed by the same higher ranking people and they felt helpless.
What you do is go the IG which is inspector general...tell them the truth or who-ever is harassing you. Hopefully you have some witnesses.
Do not lie.
Understand this...your chain of command will try to intimidate you by giving you increased workload, extra details, woork weekends....etc etc but....don't let it get to you. Report them again to IG.
Keep going to IG.
Now if you are just complaining about just being in the military...stop it. Once you are done with your contract ..you get out.

Of course if you do go AWOL... to Mexico or Canada...
Then when you are gone 30 days, and they switch your status to deserter... and you try to re-enter the U.S.... the Border Patrol will have you arrested on the spot for a federal warrant!!!
Won't your parents be proud! Once they see how you have lived up to your responsibilities! Try go talking to a Chaplain, or your CMC/1stSGT!!! That's how you solve problems... not running from them!

Go & keep going until you are gone - try Canada due to the fact Mexico doesn't like illegals and usually imprison them or shot them.
Then your buddies won't have to worry about a coward having their backs ......

Well don't kill anyone in the process you will just end up on TV and will be found. No point of going AWOL unless you like to serve jail time.

You shouldn't go AWOL. You signed a contract, honor it. Whatever bad is going on now, it will pass. Going AWOL will only complicate your life, for a very long time.

Better come up with a better plan than a "moment". After being gone you become a federal issue. For the rest of your life. Good luck with that.

Please tell me this is a joke?
Do the honorable thing. You made a commitment.
However, if you really are the coward that you seem to be, I think you SHOULD go AWOL and suffer the consequences. You don't deserve to serve this country with the honorable men and women who are proud to do their duty.
Not going to apologize for the strong feelings.
