If you won't fight to defend the country that allows you the freedoms that you have had your entire life, then you are not deserving of any respect. Bush's oil interests? Do you drive/ride in any modern transportation? Do you ever use a computer?LOL. Watch tv, listen to music........on and on and on. Do you live in 2008? Are you for real? Bush's oil interests, my oil interests, and YOUR oil interests --my friend!

If you aren't willing to fight in your country's military then you should probably find a new country. If you are called, then you go!

For all those who served, thank you.
That said, if you think the decision to fight/not fight is a simple as following orders read up on the Nuremberg Trials. No intent to compare Iraq to WW2; but, conceptually, "I was only following orders" does not work if what you are ordered to do is a crime. If you disagree, search on Lynndie England.
I might disagree with your moral position and decision; but, I respect and defend you right to make it.

I don't think that they will mention the word "draft" at this time. So you are pretty safe. If by chance, would you also refuse to go to Afghanistan to help find Ben Laden? How about Pakistan? To help them stay Democratic? I understand how you feel about Iraq & don't blame you for not being willing to go there, many people feel that this is an unjust war that is why we want the troops brought home but, the other two places have no oil or anything of value for us except to help the people remain Democratic & to find the master mind of 9/11, would you be willing to help then? I'll bet not!

We live in a country where we have freedom to believe the way we choose. The reason we have this freedom is because of our leaders and troops who fight for our right to freedom. You do as you choose and think the way you choose, but don't complain if our country falls because so many people join you in your way of thinking and we no longer have a strong protective force to defend our country. And think of this.... if we do fall into hands of people who believe in terrorism and violence, you will be beheaded if you go against fighting in war.

I respect your decision not to fight, just not your reasoning because your basis for the decision is wrong. There is no draft, there hasn't been since 1973 and is no need for one now. Forced conscription (drafting) as a method of recruiting soldiers is an inefficient way to build military ranks.
Since 1990, the preferred method has been to extend the terms of service of those volunteers already contracted for service. This allowed the numbers of the ranks to be maintained with trained personnel rather than to swell the ranks with half-trained teenagers and malcontents. Both Democrats and Republicans have suggested reinstating the draft and it gets shot down thanks to those members of Congress who actually served in the military, some of whom served with draftees in past conflicts, and know what a drain a draft really is on both quality of troops and morale of said troops.
Also, you haven't studied the history of our conflicts with Iraq. Bush was not the first president to send us into Iraq, and like it or not, he has learned from history that pulling out before anything is resolved is not the answer. Staying in to the end may not be the answer either, but at least he is trying to not make the same mistakes his father did with Iraq.
Joining the military should never be based on whether or not you agree with the current war in the news, it should be about whether or not you believe in the job our military does. Many soldiers do not agree with the current war, but they agree with what the military stands for. They pledge their very lives to a cause higher than that of any single war or president.

I hate it, but it is your decision and if there was a draft you would suffer the consequences. Also, it is thanks to our military that you could skip the draft without suffering terrible and harsh treatment, or even avoid it at all.
What bugs me though is the bush's oil interests comment. Guess what country exports the most oil to us? Canada. Granted Saudi Arabia is 2nd, but its not them we are fighting, is it. Oh and #3 is Venezuela, #4 is Mexico, #5 is Nigeria. See a theme. Only 18% of our oil comes from the Persian Gulf Region and only a fraction of that comes from Iraq. Please at least get your facts straight.

Is it the GI Bill mmmmm? You need to be sent to the penal colony called Canada for cowards and deserters.

If you are in the military and you accept a check from the federal government to be in the military, then you need to fight in whatever war they want you to, even if you don't believe in it.
Think of it this way, if you worked for Wal-Mart and they told you to stock shelves but you didn't believe in selling products made in China and you refused to do it, should you stay employed by them ?
It's the same thing.

Sure, I respect it. After all, serving isn't for everyone.
If you were conscripted, however, I would still expect you to serve as a conscientous objector. There's plenty of supply and medical jobs that are available in the military.

When you turn 18, and you are a male, you must register for the Selective Service.
You do so voluntarily...if you do not want to, you are free to leave the country.
If you decide to stay, you must register.
By doing so, you agree that should a draft be instituted, you will help defend/fight for this country however the Commander and Chief (whoever that may be at the time) sees fit.
At any point, you are free to leave the country.
But, once a draft begins, if you dodge it...you have broken the law...and your word...and have spit on everything the country has given to you.

I feel if you dont want to serve it is your choice and I have fought for that right. The only thing that hurts is when people start attacking me and my troops for doing our job. We dont come up with wars and we dont have a choice but when i am called to do my job you better be damn right I am ready to go.
