If 30 is still young how come everyone freaks out after turning 30?
I know you should be at peace with things you can't change, but I can't stop feeling sad. People say it's still young, but then how come everyone gets depressed about their age when they hit 30, if this is true?
I've never heard of anyone getting depressed about their age at 27, 28, etc.

i think people reflex back too much on what they didnt accomplish or they miss out on and as they get older they freak out
but for us who are just happy to be alive and kicking it not a problem.

I don't know. I am 30, will be 31 next month. I have never felt depressed about it. I guess its a big milestone, leaving your 20's and entering your 30's. Maybe some people are just afraid to grow up.

Women in general are still hot and beautiful even at age 40's and 50's. A little bit of wrinkles and gray hair will not kill you. What really causes major problems in young people is the heavy drinking, heavy drugs inducing and heavy smoking. I know a couple of very young people burning their candles at both ends with heavy drug usage or heavy booze drinking and they look double their age. It all depends on how well you take good care of yourself and also that your boyfriend or husband keeps you happy happy all the time 24/7. Inside out!
edit: Look on the bright side. At least you are not over the hill just yet.

Im 19 and I can't wait to be 30 (odd i know haha)! I feel that it's the age when people take you seriously and you're in the prime of your life. I personally don't understand the issues that western culture has with growing old its a natural process that we can't stop.
Enjoy life while you can!

Everything is relative. When you're 20, 30 seems old. When you're 40, 30 seems young.

It's also about how you feel your life is going. I was actually a lot more depressed when I turned 27 and 28 then when I turned 30. I was really unhappy with my life at those points. When I turned 30, I had several things happening in my life that I was excited about and did not mind at all.

30 is different from 29, just like you would like a 80 in your exam not a 79, even though the difference between 79 and 78 is like nothing, but it is for 79 and 80 on ur transcript! So is on your life track!

Trust me, I'm a nerd.

30 never really bothered me. It was just another year and another number added. I guess if you try to see it as a positive over a negative it helps.

I think a lot of people have a hard time with getting older, and 30 is a "milestone" birthday.

Other than a few hours what is the difference in 29 and 364 days and 30. Nothing. It is just a number. You are as old you as you feel. If you want to be old at 30, you can. If you want to be young at 70, you can. I think 30 is a pretty good age. You are old enough to have perspective and know what life is about and young enough to enjoy it.

I am 39, be the way.

I'm going thru this now, I'll be 30 in Nov. I think it's because 30 is a huge milestone. I dont think 30 is 'young' or 'old'. Its in between. But for me personally I am freaking out about it because 30 years of my life is gone. I cant have them back to re do things I wish I could change.
I think women have a harder time adjusting to this.

I didn't freak out.
And if you're sad about turning 30, what is it you think you've missed? Why aren't you doing something about that?

I didn't get depressed at all. I'm happy to still be young and healthy in my mid-30's.

I can't wait to step into the 30's. The 20's are rough. You've got school, searching for relationships, marriage, trying to start a career, kids. All of that is so stressful. By the time you're 30, you should have a few of the listed under your belt.

Any time you hit a decade you freak a little...when you turn 30 you realize you are getting older...and ask yourself are you where you wanted to be at this age?? Have you accomplished the things you wished to by this age?? You also question if you are on the right path...You realzie you are no longer a spring chicken and are on your way to middle age. 30 is still young but you can no longer get away with doing the things you did in your 20's. Your body and mind do change....but this can be a good thing. With aging you just got to embrace it and make each decade the best you can.

Well, better older than dead! So many people never get to see their 30th (or 40th, 50th, etc) birthday. Be grateful!

I sometimes get a little depressed with my age, I misss being young and carefree and feeling great and also I do not want to leave this earth. But still am so happy to be alive!

30 and 40 were a breeze for me- but 50 (last June) was hard for me. Not depressing, but the realization that time goes so fast, that if you have dreams, you better start chasing them.

It`s a milepost. You look back at what you have done in your life, and may second guess some choices you have made. You look forward and wonder what it all means. Aging is wonderful, it also means that you have not died, so stop worrying and get out there and live your life!

With every year that passes comes the realization that life is very swift. In the past 30 years you have accomplished so much, laughed, cried, and become the person you are today. Some become sad that they can not relive those times, they don't look like they did at 20, they are set in their ways, and the realization that they are 1/2 way to 60. No matter how successful you are, as you age you begin to ask "what have I accomplished? What do I have to show for it?" Well, look around you! Friends, family, pictures, memories, smile lines... it's all part of the ride! Enjoy 30!

Somehow I believe I just answered this in part in Spanish ...

In today’s society there is entirely too much concern about age. One is only as young as they feel. My wife’s mother at the age of 73 decided she had always desired a store so she built one and is running it, this in addition to several other family businesses. She is a retired elementary school principal.

I am 57 and just decided to go back to my old carrier of a nurse. I have spent 33 years in education as a teacher, administrator and university professor, but something was missing. I spent 17 years in the nursing field until I left it entirely in 1989. I am not being judgmental but giving advice.

Life is a journey and like any journey there are rest-stops or point along which we reflect. It sounds as if you are at one such a point. Revel in the knowledge and wisdom you have obtained and do not desire the things of youth for they as the morning dew are all so fleeting.

Hope this helps …
