A potential employer may only call former employers AFTER your interview.
They can only ask about the duration of your employment, and whether or not it was satisfactory. Otherwise they may be sued.

Not giving 2 weeks notice shouldn't be a problem.
This company where you are trying to get a job will ask your past employer if you really worked there. For how long and what kind of job did you do to be able for them to know if you are really what you are on your experience. They also MIGHT ask your character and security clearance. Some asks about if they will hire you back and the answer is yes - then they might give you the job at once. If no - the old company will not say we will not hire them back instead they will say they have no comment. While it's still early - go back where you use to work and kind of kiss A.... so that they give you good reference. Good Luck.

Yes they can say that they wouldnt hire you again.
It depends on how hard you worked for the company and how long and if you knew the right people. If you didnt leave on good terms then i would not put it on my resume.
Its probably the most common question asked when talking to a past employer if the old company would hire you again.

Kirk is correct. I had to do referance checks many times, and speak to others calling for previous employees. That's all I was allowed to do.

A potential employer can ask many things, however due to legal ramifications many prior employers will only confirm that you worked there, and when you started and when you ended your employment with them. Other than that, they may say if asked whether they would rehire you or not. It is best to put all prior employers on your resume, because if you skip one, you may have to explain a gap in employment. It is better to explain in an interview, why you left without two weeks notice.
