What do you think of being a male secretary?
I got a job offer as a loan secretary. I recently graduated college, broke as hell, and need a job. What do people think of a male secretary?...i personally think it's degrading.

It is degrading, but you don't have to make it your career. If you're wise and save some of what you make, then you can leave the secretary position and find something else. Also, don't think that just because you just graduated college that you will get a job related to your college major. You may or may not. Just depends on how "shiny" your cufflinks are and how many people you know who can lend you a hand getting you a job (if you don't know anyone that can help you out, your college degree will be virtually useless in this world).

I wouldn't say that it is degrading, just unusual. I am a female firefighter - which leaves me in a similar situation of being in a position typically held by the opposite sex. Just think, you'll likely have many female friends!

Seriously now, if you're really "broke as hell" does it matter? No one says you need to keep the job for life. You need to ask yourself, is this a company that I could see myself advancing in? Is it in the industry in which I would like a career? Is it a stable company with room for growth and advancement? If it is, than do it! It at least gets your foot in the door and opens the door to bigger and better jobs - and don't forget it also pays the bills in the meantime.

Just be sure to always be on time, never talk negatively about your bosses or co-workers and do your work. Try to do a little extra - it's those "little extras" that really make you stand out from your co-workers. Believe me, it'll pay off in the long run - either in the form of a promotion or a good job recommendation at the next company to which you apply.

Congratulations on your recent graduation and best of luck to you!!

I don't think it's degrading. A lot guys these days start that way. The ones that do well are frequently promoted by their bosses into other parts of the firm (that are more exciting). Male secretaries tend to be more relaxed/laid back. Think twice!!

In the early years in the USA male secretaries were all they had. Since you feel it is unworthy of your time, you probably will do a poor job. Secretary is now a very high potential job. You have to have skills. College is not enough! People skills are one of the things that college may not equip you with, unless you are a socialite.
