no contract, no notice required, either way.
you might need them for a reference in future, however

If you were SUPPOSED to sign a contract but didn't, then you are bound by the details of the contract as, by working there it is assumed that you accept the terms of the contract.

If no contract was ever mentioned then you can't be in breach of it and could just walk out. I think that most likely the employer would still need to give YOU notice should they wish to terminate your employment though.

Hello,
You should always give two weeks notice when you are leaving a position. This is just good practice and makes sure that your references are intact if you should need them. I don't know what type of position this is, but typically you are only provided a contract if it is a contract position where you are expected to deliver a set of standards over a designated period of time. If your employment is terminated, you can apply for unemployment depending on what state you work in. I don't know why you would expect a contract for your position, so if you can provide more information I would be glad to help you out.

Good luck,
Talisa

Out of professional courtesy, you still want to give them at least a 2 weeks notice.

As for your rights if you get let go, it depends on what you're being terminated for. (Fired vs being laid off)

It would just be polite to give a weeks written notice at the very least. Thank them for their time and the opportunities they have given you and leave it at that.

Simply put if you are paid weekly then you give a weeks notice ... Monthly a months notice. all other arrangements are by contract (which you don't have)
As for statutory rights, you have to be a qualifying employee. That GENERALLY means one year minimum on the full time staff. Therefore you have no rights if "let go"

Whether or not you are legally required to give notice, you should give them two weeks notice. Write a polite, professional letter officially giving notice. Do NOT, repeat, DO NOT use this letter to tell them how much you hate them. They may not really require you to work the two weeks- they may escort you from the building immediately. If they do, however, work cheerfully until your time is up,wrap up or hand off unfinished tasks, and if possible set things up to train your replacement to take over smoothly. Why are you leaving after 6 months? That will not look good to future employers, so it is extra important to do it in a professional, classy manner. If you can, ask your supervisor to write you a letter of reccommendation so when future employers ask about this brief stint on your cv, you can pull it out and show them that you did well and are a hard worker. Also, you never know. The job market is tough. Someday you may need to come crawling back to the company you are leaving. Don't make that harder than it has to be.

It's always a good idea to give notice and work through your notice period with a good attitude. One of the most common questions asked by employers checking refs (I always ask this) is 'did they give notice and work through the notice period?'.

As for rights when you get sacked, that depends a great deal on where you are. Check the labor laws in your area, you should actually be able to find them on line but it's rather heavy reading.

technically you dont have to sign anything to be under contract - so if you had a probationary period and have been accepted - it would be a week!

plus you dont want to burn ya bridges by booming off - tis only a week....

If you are in the UK, you do have a contract in law because you are turning up for work and being paid. Without written terms and conditions which state otherwise, the statutory rules apply, so you need to give a week's notice.
As you have been employed for less than a year, they can dismiss you, but they need a reason.

No notice needed, I still suggest that you stay on the high road and offer them 2 weeks notice so that you left on a good note and can use them for refrences in the future.
They may don't need you to stick around any longer but it is nice to offer from you

Good Luck :-)
