Is this legal?
I have worked in an office for six months with 4 other women. My boss, a male, started at 30,000 a year. After my 90 days he asked the following questions
1. For 8000 more a year would I work In the office topless? I said no
2. Would I be offended if the other girls did? I said no
Now the other girls are topless and it doesn't bother me.
So now at 6 months i feel I deserve a raise.
My boss said based on my performance he would give me 5000 more a year. He didn't offer the topless option nor has he brought it up since I said no.
So I guesss I am wondering. Would anyone have taking the 8000 or would you be happy with the 5000? There is no touching involved, just looking

Didn't realize the passion related to the subject. Yes, it is a legit question. He is a multimillionaire who's wife was killed by a drunk driver. He has a successful business. A perv? maybe but nice. I am a single mom with two kids and he has on occasion helped with bills and food and not asked anything in return. I asked for a raise because I put in more hours and I believe work harder than anyone in the office. We can work our own hours as long as the work is done. Report him? never. I was just wondering how many would actually take the offer and if it is illegal to make sure he knows so that he doesn't get in trouble. That's all. DIdn't mean to cause such an up roar

You are kidding, right? If you are not this is a blatent sexual harrassment case. Call an attorney specializing in employment and/or sexual harrassment.
I have trouble believing this is valid question. If it is, your boss has either a severe mental problem or is completely delusional. This is nuts. I also suspect your mental capacity if this is real if you don't realize the situation.
Mind you, I wouldn't mind at all working in a topless environment but it is far from reality and good social/business morals (unless in a legal topless bar, etc where it is entertainment for paying customers).

Unless you are working in the adult entertainment industry, this is a clear case of harassment. The amount of your salary increase should not be different from the other girls, just because you said no. It doesn't matter that you said it was okay for the girls to go around topless, and the others are okay with being topless. I would talk to a lawyer, even if you do work in the adult industry, it may still be a case of harassment. I would also find another job, sounds like you are working for a pig.

either way, it's still sexual harassment since sexual harassment is any unwanted/unwelcomed behavior. since he is exploiting you and making you feel uncomfortable in regards to working topless, i would take it to authorities. even if you lose your job, it's the right an moral thing to do. why should perverts like this get away with running businesses and messing up other people's lives?

That's sexual harrassment, report him to the HR department. If they don't do anything, complain to the labor department. Stick with the 5000.

it's not illegal...and if you change ur mind about the topless thing and u want 8000 then tell ur boss.

edit.

the reason it isnt illegal is because they let both sexes do it and with your permission.

Those of you yelling that this is illegal and sexual harassment need to read the law a bit before you give your opinion on it, because you are completely wrong. An employer can put any requirements on a job he pleases as long as it's not illegal or life threatening, and it's not illegal to be topless, nor is it life threatening. Obviously you don't mind since you told him you didn't care if the others were topless.

Sexual harassment has to be unwanted sexual harassment and you have already said 1. it doesn't bother you, and 2. there is no sexual touching.

Read here: http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/fs-sex.html so you won't continue giving bad advice on the subject.
