If you're in the UK and over 18 I believe that by law you can take 15 mins for every 4 hour shift however if you are under 18 you get more allowance. Look at your contract in should legally be in the fine print...good luck

Actually if you go through the laws, there are no regulations. I got into an argument with a former employer over this because I worked 8 hours a day and only received one 30 minute break for the entire shift. I thought by law I was entitled to 2 15 minute breaks as well, but the law doesn't stipulate this. It is just usually company policy.

Hi Nat - Its 15mins for every 4 hours you work. Itd also be beneficial to your health to have a MIN of 30mins for a lunch break, on top of your 2 15min tea breaks. If youre not getting ANY breaks then you need to address this with your manager and/or HR xx

If you are in the UK i think that it is 15minutes in the morning and afternoon, with half hour for lunch. You could ring ACAS; they would know 0845 7474747.

It depends if you are geven split shifts.
An employee aged 18 years or over is entitled to a 20 minute undisturbed break for every 6 hour shift they work.
Employees that work night shifts must work no longer than 8 hour shifts in any 24 hour period: a night shift would involve an employee to have worked at least three hours between 11pm and 6am.
An employee aged less than 18 years old (from the minimum age of leaving school) is entitled to a 30 minute undisturbed break for every 4.5 hour shift they work. They are also entitled to 12 hours rest between each work day and are further entitled to two full days off each week.

In the UK, the regulations give you a right to one rest break during your working day. A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There's no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.
If you're an adult worker (that is, over 18), you'll normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you're expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch.
If you're under 18 but over school leaving age (you're under school leaving age until the end of summer term of the school year in which you turn 16) you're classed as a 'young worker'. A young worker is entitled to a 30 minute rest break if they are expected to work for more that four and a half hours at a stretch.
Most employers give more than the statutory amount, though they don't have to. I give my staff 1/2 hour for lunch, plus two 15 minute breaks, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, 'cos I'm good like that! Plus it helps productivity.

Well apparently if you're a smoker you get a lot more breaks than everyone else. At least that's how it is in my work.

A half hour lunch break.
by law you should have a break every four hours.
so say if you work only 6 hrs a day you are entitled to one 15 minute break after working 4 hours.

It depends on what state you are in. Some states (Illinois for example) do not have laws dictating break times. Though all states have a minimum of 1/2 hour meal times.

If you are in the UK you will be covered by the Working Time Regulations.
These state that:
"If a worker is required to work for more than six hours at a stretch, he or she is entitled to a rest break of 20 minutes."
"Different rules apply to young workers (16-17). If a young worker is required to work for more than four and a half hours at a stretch, he or she is entitled to a rest break of 30 minutes."
