I assume you are talking about a 10 or 15 minute break to run to the can and maybe scarf down a couple bites of food to get you through the heavy lifting ...
I would say to check with your state labor board and then, depending on what they say, go to your boss and see if you are able to do that ... maybe offer to tack 10 mins onto your shift to see if it helps you get that break ...

Laws do vary a bit by state but the rule of thumb is in a 6 or more hour shift you are entitled to ONE 30 minute break.
They aren't breaking the law. Sorry.
Most heavy labor jobs work with a morning break 15, lunch break 30 and an afternoon break 15. The two short breaks are to help employees stay focused and rested but are not mandated by law.

In California, the state law is a break AFTER 4.75 hours. So it depends on your state. 4 hours seems a bit short to schedule a break into.

In the UK you are legally entitled to a 20min break for every 4 hour shift worked. However I do think that you actually have to work just over the four hours to get the break. When I worked in retail I had the choice of either working 4 hours without the break or 6 hours with a 20min break. I went with the latter every time.

Okay. My sister is a single mom with two children AND she works full time and her low life ex hasn't been in the picture since she was only in her 4th month of pregnancy. Your right. Being a single mom is not easy, but your job is under no obligation to take that into consideration and say "oh poor baby. She has to take care of the kiddies at home too so we should give her a break!" It's 4 hours of work. Stop your whinning.....No one told you to have children. That was your choice so chuck up the responsibility of being a "Mum"

Nope only if you work over 4 hours
x
But if your manager is nice - the MOST she can give you is a 15 minute break if you worked over 4 hours so like 5 hours.

No unfortunately you are not entitled to breaks for four hours but I would question any one getting a break after two hours because one should get a break over four hours.

You don't get a paid break if you work 4hours.
I get paid for working 5 hours a day, but take a 15 min break in the middle of the shift.
I am in work for 5 hrs 15 mins. but I only get paid for the 5hrs.
The 15 minute break is unpaid.
This also applies to those who work 4 hr shifts at my company.
Ask your workmates if they get paid for 8 hours or 9 hours per day.
It could be that they are allowed four 15min breaks in the day, but are not paid for them.
This is in the uk

in the uk, no, you are allowed to work 6 hours without a break, but if you work full time then it is usually 4 hours before you get a break

Depends on the company. Some do allow to have a 15 minutes break and some don't.

it would really help if you edit the question to include location.
labor laws vary by jurisdiction (country and/or state).
EDIT:
at least now you may get an accurate answer
disregard all those answers that relate to US laws....
good luck, single parents all work hard.

Labor laws vary by state. You'd have to check your particular state's Department of Labor Web site to find out the laws that apply to you.
I'm not aware of any state that requires a break for only 4 hours of work, but there may be some.

Sorry not in the UK. I think it's currently a 20 minute rest if you work more than 6 hours (30 mins if under 18 yrs old). Need to check the European Working Time Directive 1998 for more info.
