How would employers know about your past?
alright, let's just say I leave some past job refferences out of the application. Is there any way that possible employers would know that you're keeping past employers out of the application? And if so, what method would they use to find out?

Finally 21-Less party,more study
It's always better to add all past jobs then to be unemployed for the amount you left out. If you lied and said you worked at that place for longer then you originally did, they will contact the employer(98% of the time) and ask what amount of time were you employed by them. They will be honest and you will get caught. Now, you're dishonest, and what employer would want some one with the mentality of a liar and non trust able candidate?

Everything you ever do is monitored and put into a file. Congratulations. Nothing about you is a secret.

If its within the last tax year they would see it on your income and tax deductions, you couldn't say unemployed for 6 months as the earnings wont balance and you wouldn't pay tax on benefits although its classed as taxable income for NI purposes.

If you have periods of unemployment, they will ask you what you were doing at that time. Finally 21 is so right about lying. Lying on an application or in an interview is grounds for dismissal later. If you have a lot of past work experience, they may not even contact your former employers. Most employers are so afraid of being sued, the only thing they will confirm over the phone are the dates of your employment. Even so, most employers are smart enough to know that there are two sides to every story. If they ask you about something and you honestly say, "I was immature said some things I now regret," or something to show that you acknowledge your mistakes (which shows a willingness to accept responsibility), you will make a better impression than if you castigate your former employers for their stupidity. Or, you can say there was a personality conflict. Employers recognize that those exist.

There is no "permanent record" that employers have access to. There is a permanent record that the federal government has access to. If you lie, you've got to keep lying the entire time you're working for someone because one slip will reveal your secret. That's no way to live. If you have done something criminal, they can run a criminal background check on you. You also run the risk of running into someone you used to work with while you're with your new boss.

So - the answers are pretty much right.

But, I have to be brutally honest with you, most employers don't do a very complete background check. If these are very short term gigs and you leave them off, most likely, they won't find out. Having said that, if they do, they may terminate you instantly (there is a clause to that effect in the application you sign.)

Best of luck

If they choose they can run a background check which could include a social security tracer.
this tracer would show all of your past income sources. from this check they could quite probably determine that their are some past income sources that you did not disclose on your application. Aka jobs . many employers dont run that extensive of a background check on applicants/employees.
