I was told by a counselor when reading want ads, and I think it applies to online catalogs for school.
if you don't understand what its talking about, you don't have enough education to do the job.
if you don't understand what it says in the catalog open another tab, and google what it says and there will be another place to look for the what it really says, add the phrase "laymen terms"
that should help.
when you say executive do you mean asst to the head guy in a legal office?
I was an executive assistant to the person in charge of a company once , it was her idea to be able to write executive asst. to director of (company name), so I could get a better job the next time.

Its a 4 year course, split into sections. You study all aspects of the law, and then specialise in 2 sections of the law in years 3 and 4. You can gain work experience at the same time as doing the course, and the course is usually just once a week. There are alot of exams though, but they are changing the system soon so you do an exam after every section of the law, rather than do them all at once which is what it is at the moment. I think there are 4 exams in total (not sure exactly) but i know the first assesment is put together by an open case study. You dont actually earn the right to be called a legal exacutive until youve had at least 5 years experience in the job after the course, or you are a legal exacutive who earns the equivelent to a fully qualified legal executive. Ive been told its quite a difficult course to do. But then its law, its bound to be difficult. There are career paths such as going on to be a solicitor later on, or other paths in the law.
Hope this helps

I think that the complex chart is complicated by the idea that all legal executives want to be solicitors at the end of the day. I find this part of the ILEX site more straightforward, as it shows you how to sign up for the various courses. Look out for the section to the right of the page where there is an explanation about a change in the qualifications -- that is going to affect you. Obviously the best option for you is to find employment with a firm or in the public sector (e.g. local government) while you work towards your Filex exams. http://www.ilex.org.uk/
