Have you ever left a job you really hated and told you ex employer exactly what you thought of their company?
|
I did recently and it felt amazing. I did it knowing that I will never need them for a job reference as I have gone back to a previous employer who has agreed to continue my employment history from when I left them 6 months ago. Additional Details For those of you thinking I may go back, not only have I removed them from my cv but I would rather be unemployed than to have to go back to that particular company.

so, having gone BACK to a previous emplyer you can not see the sense in not burning your bridges ,just in case you ever need to go BACK to a previous employer.
hmmmm. can you see the problem, you say you will never need to go BACK to them, but you have already gone BACK to the people you left to join them, so there could have been an outside possability you would go BACK, although you have now made sure that you can not.
However good it made you feel, you have a history of going back to previous employers (we all have I have left 2 different companies and gone back to them) so making sure you could not do it this time was not such a clever move.

OK but it still wasn't wise - you might have felt good, but it did nothing for your professional reputation (but from the sounds of it, you didn't care). And you know what - they are all in denial about it. After all, everything is your fault, in their eyes.
You will surprised when this comes back to haunt you.

Many years ago I worked as a YTS hairdresser, and there was a stylist there who was really mean to me all the time, and the only one who insisted I should make her coffee. (the other stylists made their own) After a couple of months I developed severe dermatitis forcing me to give up my dream off being a hairdresser :( So on my last day just as I was about to leave this woman demanded a cup of coffee, so I and one of the other stylists poured loads of salt and pepper in it. You should have seen the look on her face hahaha it was worth missing my bus for!!!!

i once worked during my university holidays, it was a catering company based in an office block. it was just me and the manager and sge was a right b***h. treated me like a was something she trod in for weeks. On my last day, she had popped out and left her white hygenic hat on the side. I decided to compliment her bright orange ginger hair. I smoothered lemon curd on the inside.
very funny as I watch her put it on and then smiled and said my goodbyes

Many years ago I had a month trial with a shipping company. The manager was terrible and the other two employees were really unhappy.I was a widow with 3 children and really needed the job.A couple of days before the end of the trial period I went for an interview with another company(doing the same thing) I was offered it on the spot so with great satisfaction I entered the inner sanctum on my last day to be told that he was quite satisfied with my work and I was hired permanently. At this point, the other employees listening heard me say the following:- Sorry, but this last month has probably been the most miserable 4 weeks I have ever had.You are without exception, the most ignorant ,rude and ungrateful employer it has ever been my misfortune to spend a month with and I would'nt stay here if you doubled my salary! That night,my fellow employees came into the hotel bar i worked in at week-ends and bought me a drink each!It was one of the best days of my life, still laughing about it as i type.(thanks for reminding me)

You should always avoid closing doors on yourself - period. You can never say never.
What happens in the future if the boss you slagged off happens to be a gatekeeper to you getting your next dream job ? You may not even know they are involved.
For example a discussion in a bar between two friends talking about a job opening and the applicants, for which you have applied ... you have no idea who is friends with who out there.

I left my job at one time because I didn't get a long with one person I worked with. I'll tell you what, I didn't mention anything about how I felt about working with her instead I mentioned that I decided to quit because I was looking for something different and closer to my home. I know that if I said something negative about the company and the people they employ, someday I might need them for a referral and they might give me a negative report and will not get a job.

Yes! It felt great. My family had owned a small store for a long time. Then they sold it to a big company who promised to keep all the original staff. Well, as the manager, I was getting squeezed out because they brought in their own management staff. They only used me to deliver unpleasant news to the rest of the employees. This company had dirty business practices which included illegal kickbacks.
I documented everything and finally left to work for a competitor....taking with me a copy of my old mailing list and all of the knowledge I had accumulated. Oh yeah, they had rekeyed the store on the day I left and I had the only key. Still have that somewhere......

Yesssss!.. and I was even good enough to hint where I had concealed one of the kippers (beneath the carpet where I'd planted the grass seeds and carefully watered). Not only that there is an amazing stand alone usb PC device which plugs in and overrides other PCs from 'blackdog technology' which can create havoc with files, passwords etc and is undetectable when removed!

I have been fortunate enough to only ever be in one job I utterly detested, but even then I didn't tell my employer what I thought of them. Knowing my luck I would start a job somewhere new one day and find they were my manager!
