Discrimination at work?
My company is implementing a car parking rota, e.g. only some of us can drive in on certain days etc. I was just wondering if there was any issues with discrimination as it does not include everyone who drives in, just a select few of us.

If the 'select few' have been selected fairly, it's not a discrimination issue. The selection could be on the basis of who works particular hours, who needs to bring their car to work (for travelling distance, or because they finish after dark etc). It could be that senior people have been selected, or people who need to be particularly smart and can't be blustered around by walking to work.

Obviously, they can't pick on an unfair basis - women / white people / people with blonde hair etc; that would be discrimination.

I think they'll have done it fairly. If people are moaning about it, you might want to suggest that they publicise the way that people have been chosen so that it's all in the open.

On the surface of it, it seems unfair - but then in some cases maybe these people need access to their cars at any time. For instance, in our office loads drive in- however only those of us that do house viewings need access all day to our cars, therefore the car park is for our use.

Quite simply they can allocate parking in virtually anyway they wish.
Many companies allocate parking and this can be done on seniority, distance travelled, shift workers etc.

I can't imagine so - unless they're selecting those affected on grounds such as sex, race, age, etc. As long as they have consistent criteria for selecting who is affected then they can do what they like. Where I work only people above a certain grade are allowed to park in the car park - it's not discrimination, it's just tough.

The only discriminatory factor would be if there was a clear sex gap- i.e. is it only women allowed? or, more importantly, are disabled people not being allowed to park?

Legally the following are covered (in the EU):

Sex
Race
Sexual orientation
Disability
Religion
Age

No discrimination.
Many many companies provide parking for only a select few employees.
