she needs to check her contract of employment - and also the company sickness and absence policy.

Also speak to the union. I think this is very harsh

Typical big company bullying, B & (spit) Q are notorious for behaviour like this, and it stinks! It does'nt stop there, they bully their suppliers, anybody they can because of their financial clout! Thank god they are on a downhill slide!

no this is not fair, this needs to be escalated beyond the bosses. Seek advice with a head office HR person.

I wish you luck.

no they cant do that, they have to give disciplineries, verbal warnings and written warnings before they can even get to dismissal. she needs to speak to Citizens advice or somone legally trained so guide her through this

As long as your partner informed her manager that she was going home ill, then there is nothing wrong with this and she should dispute the written warning by initiating the company's grievance procedure.
Nor is it proper that you partner be given a written warning for attending a medical appointment (assuming she has complied with company policy and made every reasonable effort to arrange this appointment outside working days/hours.
The only thing I can think of is that B&Q have, as many employers do nowadays, a target maximum number of sickness days for each employee. Once employees go beyond this limit it can trigger a standard letter warning the employee of their sickness record. This system is more to put the frighteners on staff who 'swing the lead'. If your partner has done everything by the book, her absences are endorsed by a medical note and she has not had an excessive number of days off the she should not have cause to worry and any action taken against her could (if she has been working there for at least a year) be challenged at an employment tribunal.
