Are there any downsides to being a Corrections Officer?
|
It seems to me like the pay is great, you can easily make 80k or so after a few years and with some overtime. No college necessary, easy/mindless job, forced to stay in good shape..... Sure there's the possibility of something going wrong and you getting injured, but the chances of that seem relatively low.
Why aren't more people Corrections Officers?

After obtaining my bachelor's degree in criminal justice, I worked at our county correctional facility making about $18K 12 years ago. You are a glorified baby sitter. "Bubba took my magazine", "Billy Bob won't let me watch TV", "My stomach hurts, I need to see a doctor." You also get the pleasure of doing body cavity searches and usually alot of shift work. Plus there's always a supervisor who thinks they are some super law enforcement officer. I quit after a year to become a paralegal. Good Luck.
