2 years on job with no pay raise!!!!!?
I work for wackenhut corporation, as a security officer. I work 2 hours away from where are actual business is located. We are a contract job. I have talked to my area manager about raises and health and dental benefits 6 months ago. He said since I have been here over a year I should get a raise, and he was going to look into the health and dental benefits for us. The company gives dental, vision, and health benefits to alot of other employees in other states. What should I do?

Try to start your own small security firm, or sell security products. With companies, you will always be subject to the whims of others, which are often (or usually) unreasonable.

At least start to do this on the side, until you can do it full time.

It shouldn't be that hard to find suppliers for security products, and you would have a great amount of credentials having worked in this industry. You could even do a lot online.

Go to human resources and get the paperwork started for any benefits that you are eligible for according to you hiring agreement and better have some proof as to what they promised you!!

If raises were promised or a cost of living ask about the there.

You will probably not get anything if you don't make yourself visible.

If you aren't given any good reason why you are denied the benefits and raises others get, you should quit. Sounds like you work for a company that considers it's employees to be disposable units.

First of all, your boss should KNOW what benefits he offers and IF he is going to give you a raise. Sounds to me like he is giving you the run around. Find another job and be very clear this time as to what you expect as compensation, including pay and benefits. Also, ask your new employer when you should expect a review (for a possible raise). A reasonable amount of time would be in six months.

Since you are a contract employee they can't give you benefits, you don't really work for them. You need to find a regular job if you want those thigns.

IF I WERE U I WOULD HAVE START LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB A YEAR AGO. ALWAYS FIND A JOB THAT WILL OFFER U BENEFITS FOR HEALTH, VISION, AND DENTAL. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT A RAISE WILL BE GIVEN TO U EVERY YEAR ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY, WHICH IS THE MONTH U STARTED WORKING FOR THE COMPANY, BEFORE U SIGN ANYTHING. GOOD LUCK.

You should find a new job. You should also go back to school to get some skills that are more marketable.
I have found that when your boss says they are looking into something, if they don't get back to you within several days they aren't looking into anything.

I know that company and they are not a reputable company the problem is they hire alot of incompetent employees and thats simply because they don't have good fringe benefits, talk is cheap most jobs after 6 months evaluate you for a raise and if your full time you should of had an option to get your insurance, find a more suitable job

Employers give raises based on potential not what you've accomplished. Just showing up for work does not always constitute a raise. Show them ways that you've emproved the earning potential or cut costs for the company and you're sure to get a raise. Show interest in progression towards management. etc. etc.

You should talk to your co-workers. It is likely that they also are not getting raises, and not getting benefits they thought they would get, and they are probably upset about it too.
If others are upset, you should start working together to try to get the bosses to give some raises and at least clearly state who is eligible for benefits and who is not, and why.
You could circulate petitions, contact a union, contact community leaders and ask them to start writing letters to your employer asking them to provide better wages and benefits to their emolpyees.
As long as you are working together with your co-workers to improve your working conditions, it is considered "concerted activity" under the National Labor Relations Act. It is illegal for any company to fire, discipline or otherwise retaliate against workers for concerted activity. (That doesn't mean they never do it, but it is still illegal and you would have recourse through the National Labor Relations Board if they did.)

I'd start by asking specific questions like: "What do I need to do to qualify for a pay raise" and fill in any gaps that are mentioned. Then once all those requirements are met, if you have still not gotten your raise. Make sure you are in good standing with your current boss. Make no demands or threats. Quietly start looking for a new job. Ask potential employers to not contact your boss and they should respect that until they are serious about hiring you. Note: It is easier to find a job when you have a job. Also note, do not defame or bash your current employer in any way. This promotes a negative. When they ask why you want to leave your current position, don't lie but you might say something like "Right now, there is no opportunity for advancement from my current employer so I am looking elsewhere." This indicates that you are looking to be upwardly mobile and are driven for advancement. This also does not speak negatively about your present employer. Just that they just do not have any opportunities for you right now.

Good Luck

Suck it up Cupcake! At least you have a job right? What makes you think you are any more special than anyone else there? I'm sure your boss has made promises to the other employees that he never kept. All employers do it. Get over your self.

well, to your company, you are disposable. go ask for a raise- mention how long you have been there, and if they have no good reason to not give it to you, hand in your notice!

You said that it is a contract job. Do you mean you have an employment contract for yourself, or that the facility you work at has contracted the services of the security company you work for?

If you are privately contracted on your own, and these things are in your contract, they are possibly breaching the contract. If these things are not provided for in your contract, they do not have to offer them.

If you are just a regular employee who filled out an application and got hired, they may or may not have to offer certain health benefits to you, based on how many people they employ and your state's laws. The best way to find out just exactly what you are entitled to is to find a lawyer familiar with employment law in your state. Many of them will do an initial consult for free

Contact the corporate office and find out who the Human Resources manager is. Email or write that person a letter explaining who you are and that you are requesting a raise in pay and benefits because you have been there so long. If they do not help and you find yourself in the same boat say....
3 months from now, just quit! If a company is not taking care of you then why should you bust your hump for them. My advice is to land another job first though.

Your better off calling your Human Resources Department about this. They are usually the ones who work with getting you that raise & your benefits. Maybe your manager isn't following up with them close enough to make things happen.

Well you should have discussed benefits when you were hired!

Raises are not guarenteed nor are the your right as an employee. Neither for that matter are benefits unless they are offered and your not receiving them. The compay should have an h.r. department you need to contact.

Quite frankly though it sound like the company sucks and I would be finding a new employer.
