(13 year old, has an idea for a job) Is it legal...?
|
Hey all. I live in the United States (Rhode Island) and a few months ago a housing apartment went up less then a mile away from my house for adults over the age of 55 (my grandmother lives there). If I got permission from whomevers incharge, would it be legal to offer services such as carrying in groceries, getting the mail, and other odd jobs people that age would apprieciate a hand with?
If it's legal, what would a charge?

I think it would be legal, but you can't just go up to someone and start charging them. They have to agree to pay you in advance. Advertising might be a good way to do this. Since these are small tasks, $1 per errand might be OK. You could "bundle" your services by the week or month though and offer a flat rate.

Sounds legal enough. Actually it sounds like a good idea. As long as you get the OK from the (wo)man in charge. As for charges you could always say that you do it for free but any donations are greatfully received.

I'm very proud of you for thinking of this idea, I would have to go with ,, make a donation, some peaple are on fixed income and cant afford alot so dont get deppresed when you only get .50 cents or a quarter, it all adds up to dollors, some peaple may want to just sit and talk or you can go with them when they go shopping, you may find your self to busy and have to start writing peaple into your days

if you received permission sure its legal...beleive me you won't be making enough for the work visa police to check you out..they say yes...you tack up on bulletin board, in mailbox area of the builing, thats where they usually put notices,
list all of the chores you are offering to do...especially if they allow pets..thats a guaranteed job or two..people love people
to walk the pooch, so they can be doing something else
fee wise thats something i would personally leave open
when they say how much, just as sweetly say, whatever its worth to you madam, sir...im just trying to save up for my
school clothes...or whatever...bet you make a lot more than if
you said $3.00 a pop....let them give you the rate if its ridiculous, you can say..ok. but i will have to check my schedule..and get back to you...if its horribly low amount
get back to them and say that your schedule won't allow you to offer the service afterall....i will get back to you if i have an opening...guess what..word of mouth...she will hear what a good worker..how your always on time..etc...she will say..well what do you pay her...beleive me..she will be back with a matched offering nex't time.....good luck..let me know how it works out for you
