I hope he rots in hell. I vote torture and the death penalty, let them suffer before they die. I dont have the words to explain how I want to make their lives an absolute living hell.

Let's look at the ethics side of this before we begin to build the gallows or fire up the electric chair for this monster.
No NORMAL person would do a thing like this, therefore the monster that committed this crime may be insane and if proven to be insane, CANNOT be put on trial. People suffering from mental illnesses CANNOT be tried in a criminal court.
They can be committed to Special Mental Health Units such as Broadmoor under section for indefinate lengths of time, but cannot be put on trial.
It is for this reason that people who commit such crimes often plead mental incapacity and say things like "the voices told me to do it" and thereby escape a jail sentence.
Insanity however must be proven by professional specialists and that takes time, a lot of it and money too.

argument for the death penalty, there was hardly any murders committed during the period when hanging was the law in the UK, a murder made public headlines in the press because they were few and far between then.
Argument against the death penalty, NONE! because murder is running rampart in this country and something drastically has to be done, the press doesn't bother covering most of them which just shows how soft we have gone on murderers

I am all for the Death penalty. I think our punishments are too lenient. when someone is locked up for life i think it should mean for the rest of their natural lives. they should not be able to study for qualifications etc they should be locked up and forgotten about. If it was up to me the punishment would fit the crime, a murderer would be killed the same way he killed his victims a rapist would be castrated. for this particular crime just let the parents have 24hrs with him i'm sure they can punish him good.

I have to say that i cannot see any other punishment
It only depends how 'civilised' about it we want to be.
It works this way - the court will find him guilty and sentence him to the maximum prison time.
this will satisfy those who are against capital punishment on principle
he will be sent to an overcrowded and very dangerous prison and in a while all those inside will know what he did and they may decide to make his life a little more like hell everyday until he either hangs himself or they do it for him
This will satisfy those who want him dead.
He is no different from Ian Huntley remember and Huntley is still alive... maybe not for long
Maybe there are no honourable criminals left...

He should be hanged, as should all child murderers.
I do not believe that someone who can murder a child in this way has any hope of rehabilitation. Locking them up for life without parole is not enough.

capital punishment would cause him to die within a few mins when executed.
Instead he should be given a life imprisonment so he can sit and repent on his doing later and that would be an example for others not to follow that.

I beleive that all violent criminals should get the death penalty. Violent murderers, child sex offenders and rapists.
There is no reforming these people, and the British system just lets them off with a slap on the wrist because the government doesn't have the funds or space to keep them under lock and key where they belong.

Personally I agree with the death penalty.
In cases where DNA evidence is proof of the crime and the crime is cruel and heinous , involves the murder of a child or is strictly for profit - a victim's life is worth more than the killer having a cushy bankroll.
In the USA , I believe we should always have the option of capital punishment. The appeals process is too long and drawn out. If the proof is 100% and DNA has eliminated all other suspects - a death sentence should be carried out quickly.
The killer never gave his victim an appeal or reduced sentence.
My theory has always been let the punishment fit the crime - a killer should be put to death as they killed their victim. Maybe then there won't be such mutilation of done. Or so much crying for a peaceful death for the killer who gave his victim no peace or consideration.
I don't understand British law so I can not truthfully offer an opinion on their penal system.

The whole point of death penalty opposition is that it's nothing to do with the crime- everyone despises the crime- it's about the punishment. So to ask if it's relevant now in relation to a particular crime is to to misunderstand the debate. Standard anti-death penalty defenders would say, what if we find out a week after we kill him that he didn't do it? But a better analysis would be to try to establish exactly what it is we want to do when we convict someone of a crime. If we want to rehabilitate them, then no, the death penalty doesn't work. The other option is, we want to punish them (this seems more likely to me). If so, there are far worse punishments than quickly and painlessly ending their lives... so how exactly does the death penalty ever fit any situation? It's just a knee jerk reaction; there are better ways to rehabilitate and/or punish...

I am normally vehemently against capital punishment, but as a mother I can now honestly say that the thought of a man doing that to a 2 year old is so repulsive, that the death penalty is quite possibly the only punishment appropriate.

I think it is dangerous and irresponsible to hold convictions with conditions. We need to be 'for' or 'against' issues...with no middle ground.
As a person who does not believe in Capital Punishment, I am often misunderstood as being 'soft on crime'. Or people think I can't possibly understand how horrible a crime, like the one you describe, really is. Thats not the case. I have made my decision, personally, on how I feel about CP, and I need to stick with it.
In this world, exceptions to rules are what gets us into trouble. Emotion has no part in policy making. We need to intellectualize our decisions...if thats possible...in order to make the most just system possible.

Our world as a society has such a mixed opinion when it comes to the death penalty.
Working in law enforcement for over 30 years, I've become numbed after hearing some judicial sentences involving some of the worst crimes.
The pro activist will claim that such a hienous crime deserves death. A anti activist will bring argument that it costs more or some other issue against.
My opinion is that when our children are victimized in such a devastating manner...nothing applies more exactly to the reasons FOR the death penalty. These "thugs" are a burden to society and society should apply the fullest extent of the law by setting an example for other "thugs" to see!
If this victim is a family member....you have my deepest and most sincere condolences. I too had a family member murdered and there is no justice served by letting these "thugs" continue to breath when they take the life of another!
If it weren't for lawyers...we wouldn't need lawyers.

Rape, sexually motivated murder and paedophilia proved beyond doubt should equal castration (male and female) and a slow painful death. Failing that prisons where inmates work their arses off for bugger all and no possibility of parole wouldn't be a bad idea.

I never know what punishment is suitable for these monsters. I mean how could anybody do that to a child, let alone a relative ?
I think capital punishment is too quick and easy - and the suffering is over in seconds for the perpertrator. However, life in prison is also not an option - why should he be allowed to live for what he has done?
In my opinion the only thing to do is to put him in a house with the family/friends of this little girl and let them beat and torture the SH*T out of him. Believe me, I'm only a little thing but I'd kill him. People like him make me so angry.
I have a 2 year old daughter myself and as I am writing this the tears are rolling down my face. My thoughts to anyone who has suffered in this way.

Let's see... murder, sexual assault of an infant. Hanging sounds about right.
People who do this type of action are incurable. There is nothing that will make them not a psychopathic murderer and pedophile. There is no cure. So, knowing this (which is also true for so many other crimes), it is in the best interests of the state and the people to eliminate them, as it would a rabid dog.
Not with malice or vengeance, but for the simple fact that these are permanently broken people who will only harm others, given the chance. There is no place for them in society.
I'm still trying to figure out why murderers, especially in the E.U., get such short sentences. Studies show that enough of them murder innocent people after being released that it makes no sense.

I personally don't think he deserves to breathe the same air as the rest of decent society. I say let him fry. What's the point of sticking him in prison for the next 30 to 50 years? How is that gonna change anything? Might as well get it over with and send him to his maker.

Either death penalty or life without parole.
I could care less whether or not they get the death penalty, I just think it's stupid that we have child molesters and murderers walking around on parole.

I think that by killing someone who has killed makes you as bad as the killer, BUT in extraordinary cases like this one, the Moors murders, and the soham killers, I think that society does need to be protected, by executing these people it will make an example to those thinking about these crimes, I do not agree with murder, but if someone can do that to a small defenceless innocent child, who was so trusting as young children are, then they should be made to rot in the m ost horrible way possible!! I hope that they get beaten every day in prison, whoever they are, and I hope they never ever ever get let out to see daylight again!
