Umm,because of everything said here already and plus what kind of person defends a person they know is guilty.Thats one side of it.Plus, they all do charge too much money. If I get a ten million dollar settlement for a freak accident or a family member dying.I should nt have to give a lawyer 40 percent for just being a lawyer.

Generally speaking, people who need lawyers hate everyone.

But, some people hate lawyers because they write really long comments and do not use paragraphs.

They pretty much ruin the quality of life for everyone by suing over anything and everything they can get people to sue over. They are cuasing society to try and regulate stupidity which is impossible.

Case in point: Now every coffee cup from any fast food or coffee shop says "Caution Hot Beverage"

Now isn't that the definition of stupidity? It's coffee!!! It's supposed to be hot!!!!

It is known as opportunism. Ever see how lawyers sue drug companies or doctors for mal practice cases? They sue for hundred of millions and the victims who suffered the most only get a few thousand in class action law suits. The lawyers walk away with most of the loot.

For several reasons. First and foremost, there is a stereotype that lawyers are greedy and unscrupulous. This comes from lawers that make frivolous lawsuits and take 30% as their cut; ones that work as defenses attorneys and use technicalities to get their client off. Poor people have less access to their services, which makes lawyers look even more greedy.

It should also point out that lawyers also work as judges and frequently enter into politics. All three of these jobs affect other people's freedoms and can sow the seeds of distrust.

So, in answer to your question, people hate lawyers because there is a stereotype of them being greedy, having few morals/ethics, and that they are frequently in positions where they can control other people.

I dont hate all lawyers, but a lot of them get ridiculous claims and somehow they win. Like the guy that went in the back of the RV to fix a sandwich(he put it on autopilot). The RV went off the road and got torn to pieces. The guy one a lawsuit for a new RV and 1.5 million dollars. That is ridiculous. The other reason is because they have to support murderers and will do anything to get them off the hook, even if they know the person did it. That makes it unsafe for people. It is not all lawyers but a lot of them are very scandelous and like to screw people out of money.

people don't like to hear the TRUTH about their case- or lack of case. people just want to sue & think that the other side is ALWAYS wrong; can't understand when their attorney tells them they are not blameless & cannot get everything they want from the court.
laws have limitations and people have a problem understanding they cannot get a million dollars for a car accident that cost them $12,000 in medical bills; that their husband has a right to see his children; that the father or mother are required to pay child support- even if they think they cannot afford it; that your neighbor has a right to build his house as high as he like whether or not that ruins your view.....
and as for the bill, the bill is no different then the p lumber or hairstylist or dentist

in my personal opinion - because lawyers are actually well trained liars. they charge 250.00 to answer no to a question on the phone, elaborate fees for much of nothing other than having their secretaries fill in the lines on pre-made forms. at least - that used to be my opinion. then, i ran into an old friend - who was in the air force when i knew him 25 years ago. i nearly backed off when i found out he is now a lawyer. I agree with the woman who said they work long hours, (at least mine does). I have never known anyone who works 7 days a week, rarely gets paid because most of the cases he takes on are charity or low income people. he is a criminal attorney - and most of his cases have been dwi's where the officer has walked all over someone because they think they can. he is also an honest lawyer - very hard to come by - but that typically means he doesn't make much. he has to take care of his own health insurance, plan for his retirement, and even has a second job. he's a wonderful guy and i am very glad i didn't back away.

Okay, I am a lawyer. I have also NOT been a lawyer, and so have seen both sides. Lawyers are the target of a lot of bad press because we defend people who are not very nice. However, if you are in trouble, whether or not you are a "not very nice" person, the first thing you want to do is have a tough lawyer on your side. While most of us (yes, including me) do not want criminals on the street, remember that our government was founded in part by people who had been the subject of public scorn in the past, people who did not have any protection against a government that would put them in prison for no reason. Lawyers protect everyone's rights, not just criminals or bad people, but also good people who are caught in a system they do not understand. Personally, I have been able to reunite families, protect estates from greedy relatives, protect both men and women from abuse and assault, and held police departments accountable when they have physically abused prisoners for no reason. No, I am not rich, do not drive a new car (a Ford focus actually), do not take long vacations and live in an apartment, not a house. My children work while going to school to support themselves and pay for their own books. In other words, we are a middle class family just like you. So the next time you are mad at a lawyer, remember who led the civil rights movement before Martin Luther King - Thurgood Marshall - a lawyer. Remember who brought clean food to your table and started the environmental protection movement, Teddy Roosevelt - a lawyer. Remember who made Ford quit manufacturing cars that exploded - Ralph Nader, a lawyer. Yes, there are abuses, just as there are in any profession. But they are the minority and a stereotype. There are many more lawyers like me than there are bums.

Actually, I really love my lawyer.

He refuses any case where he believes the person is guilty or is hiding something.

One third of the cases he takes he never gets a dime for. Most of these are people who have little money and have been abused by someone else who did. He will always take a case that involves abused children...to protect those children both from the system and from the abuser.

Several of his clients actually brings us home grown vegetables, bread, and other meaningful gifts.

He doesn't make huge money, he has to pay for all his medical issues, he has to make his own provisions for retirement.

Between us, with natural and adopted children we have 15. One is handicapped and will be with us forever. We have 32 grandchildren and make a point to have someone visiting all the time. We give generously to charities, both with our time and our dollars......we give over 10% of our income to charitable causes.

May be you have had a bad experience.....but understand that there are a lot of lawyers out there who do a lot of "quiet" good things that confidentiality doesn't allow for discussion. In other words, his good deeds are not bragged about.

P.S.

We do our own laundry, ironing, yard work, home maintenance, and my husband does almost all of his car repair.
