Unless the crime is a capital offense they cannot. Juvenile records are sealed in CA and WA, the only states I am familiar with

There are statutes of limitations and depending on how bad the crime is. If you killed someone and you were 16 they may charge you as a adult; and if they don't catch you until your 44 they will still charge you with murder. Also, Don't post on yahoo saying you broke the law as a kid and were wondering if you could get away with it, prosecution lawyers would love to prove you knew it was wrong and want to get away with it. Judges in Indiana won't take to kindly to this!

Nope. They already charged you once for the crime and charging someone twice for the same crime is against the law and referred to as "double jeopardy".

It depends. If you had done time as a child, then no, unless they find reason to reopen the case.
Just make sure that your Juvy records are court sealed and can not be reopened.
Just don't commit any other crimes.

Unless the statute of limitations has passed....eg...you think you can murder someone as a youth, and be off the hook once you become 18...or rape some woman????

Yes they can, unless the statute of limitations is up. There is a statute of limitations on most crimes...usually 6 months to 2 years on misdemeanors, longer on felonies. Serious felonies like murder have no statute of limitations. If you wer ea juvenile when the crime was committed, you would be charged as a juvenile, although if you were close to 18 they may conduct a hearing to decide whether or not you should be charged as an adult. it would depend on the severity of the crime, but yes, you can still be charged even after you turn 18.

Yes, they can still charge you, but you should still be charged as a juvenile if the crime was committed as a juvenile. There is a time frame in which you can still be charged (usually several years) after the crime is committed, however you should not be charged as an adult simply because they waited out the statute.
Now, it is not 100% positive that you will be tried as a juvenile. In rare cases and for especially heinous crimes, even minors can be tried as adults if the court deems it fair. However, if it was a minor crime then there is likely no need for this and you will almost certainly be tried as a juvenile as that was when the crime occurred.

Any crime commited has a statute of limitations. Meaning an x amount of years after which a crime was commited that the person/s responsible can be held accountable. The fact that you recently turned 18 doesn't matter.

The main answer depends on whether the statute of limitations has run out. For example, if you raped someone when you were 16 and they didn't catch you until you were 18, you can bet you're still going to get arrested and charged with the crime.
The real question is whether you will be charged as an adult or as a juvenile. And I think the answer to that largely depends on the nature of the crime and how old you were when you committed it.

Yes, if it's still within the statute of limitations (which it probably is). Turning 18 doesn't shield you from crimes committed the night before...or 3 months before.

They can, but you would be tried at the level at which you committed the crime unless they determine you should be tried as an adult.
