Only the REALLY sad smoke. Its nothing to do with 'freedom' or 'rights'. Why do these 'Saddo's' think its ok to poison other peoples lungs because THEY have rights. Use the same thinking towards the idiots who drive around with windows down and the stereo at 1000 decibels........because THEY like it!!. They're called SELFISH AND ARROGANT BASTARDS!!...sorry to all natural bastards, I know it was'nt your fault.

Who gives a smokin'-dick about being sociable..while smoking in public?
I don't!
And maybe smoking wouldn't be so bad if the smokers would move at least 50-feet away from the entrances/exits.
And if one wants to smoke in public, they should be encouraged to stay home and stand in their front yard where they can pull, puff, drag, cough, hack, and spit until they turn to something good to eat!

I'm all for it. I have the right to breathe cigarette free air. I used to smoke so I know what it'd be like not to be able to in the bar. But it was nice when I was out in Boston to go to a bar and not stinking afterwards and with a sinus headache. So why should I have to stand in a cloud of smoke because of someone else's bad habit.

last year in scotland we had a smoking ban in all public buildings including train stations that are partially enclosed - it is fanatstic to be able to go to the theatre or for a meal and know that you will not have to suffer somebody else's evil smoke, to say nothing of the health hazzard or the after smell of ashtrays in your clothes and hair.
now it is time to make smoing in public illegal - it is disgisting having to use a doorway where all the smokers are huddled together and having to walk behind or past anybody smoking

I quit smoking 1 and 1/2 years ago, so I don't care one way or the other. I think if you're outside it should not be banned. Indoors yes. Common sense...Wow.

I love it. You don't need a smoke to be social. You just need better self-esteem.

It's because of the few inconsiderate smokers that these kind of laws have to be in place. I have to agree with them - as I get tired of having to breath and smell the smoke caused by those that stand right by entrances to buildings to have their cancer stick.

I live in Scotland so we have had the smoking ban for almost a year now. I have to say that I love it. I no longer go home after a night out to wake up stinking of fags in the morning.
One of the clubs here in Glasgow has had to fit automatic airfresheners as the smoke was masking the sweat and BO....not any more!!

I don't know about anti-sociable. I will say I am a huge fan of less government in many area's. There are health issues to be considered here and I don't think the positives of banning smoking in public areas outweigh the negatives of taking away freedoms that are currently expected. Make it illegal or don't ban people from smoking in public areas.

i think it's a good idea. why should other people have to suffer because you choose to pollute your lungs? i have severe asthma and i can't go to a lot of resturants or bars because of all the smoke. Why should i be prohibited to go somewhere because I choose not to smoke? People shouldnt be allowed to smoke in resturants because who wants to smell smoke or breath it in when they are eating? That would be like saying if I am drinking alcohol you have to do so just because I am and you have no choice in the matter. It's just like at work. People who smoke are allowed to have "smoke breaks" in addition to their lunch. I just get a lunch, and why? Because I choose not to have a disgusting habit.

I think it's getting ridiculous. I can understand it in enclosed places but on a sidewalk, on the beach, in a park - I see nothing wrong with it Already too much control over our lives anyway.

I totally agree with a smoking ban in all public places - and I am a smoker!
I also believe that, just as smokers are being told they can“t smoke in public places, I think the use of iPods and Mobile phones should be banned on public transport, too - but that is another story.

I hate cigarette smoke and I think it should be outlawed everywhere execpt inside peoples' homes. Why should I (and other non-smokers) have to deal with that disgusting smell of smoke? Smokers stink (if you're a smoker you probably didn't notice but ask a non-smoker - you smell bad!).

It's about time. I live in New Jersey where they passed the law last year banning it. If you want to smoke, you have the absolute right to do so, however, I don't want to smoke it with you. Which is exactly what happens when you light up next to me. It's nice coming home from a bar and not smelling like smoke.

Totally wonderful...could not be publicly restricted enough in my opinion, as I have a severe reaction to smoke due to allergies and asthma...if you have to smoke, just do it somewhere where I won't encounter it just going about my business on the street...

i do not agree with imposing laws such as this. yes there is research that says secondhand smoke is bad for those around a smoker. if the government should only ban smoking in government property. the decision of smoking in resturants. bars etc. should be left to owners and customers to decide. that part of the ban is intrusive into the rights of buisiness owners deciding how to run buisinesses. in our rush to "protect" everyone from themselves we ought not trample individual choice of citizens. another reason i oppose laws like this: laws like these are one of the tools the nazis used to bring germany under there control in the early 30's and we all know where that went.
