If it is to be performed ,as it will be performed, the most responsible course is to encourage the procedure to be performed at the earliest possible date under the best medical care possible. Allowing no legitimate / legal recourse to unwanted pregnancy drives the behavior all the way from extremely dangerous herbal remedies to full term natural born infants tossed into the dumpster. The mother is the victim that suffers the most not the fêtes. The mother is sentient The fetes is plasma, starlight , water , and dust that has no better word for suffering than a fish. The unwanted fetes is the consequence of the mother being victimized, either by the culture in general or person or persons in particular. If you want to prevent abortions, prevent the circumstances that drive the practice. Poverty, rape, incest, parental and religious intolerance to adolescent sex, pollution induced birth defects, sex slavery and others. Support birth control technology and education. Putting legislated pressure to resolve unwanted pregnancy earlier rather than later is OK, forcing abortion into dark secrecy is not. I live in Oregon. I take comfort in assisted suicide. In a sense it gives one the courage to go on fighting to the last breath. Hillary	No one is pro-abortion, first of all. Pro-choice is supporting a woman's right to choose whether or not to have an abortion or remain pregnant, which is appropriate because no one tells you what to do with your own body in a free society (even though it's becoming less and less free). It's a private medical decision that should only involve the the woman and her doctor. Same with assisted suicide -- it involves a private medical decision. Most people would never want to kill themselves, maybe they can't picture themselves being so sick and miserable to even contemplate it. No woman in her right mind would want to have an abortion unless it was necessary, for whatever reason. "I don't think women should get abortions, but I think that it should be their choice to make" Get your own fricken opinion and stop repeating everything you hear like some sort of parrot! If you think that women have the right to kill their unborn children, then you are for abortion. I am ANTI- ABORTION, but I am for Assisted Suicide, when they are mentally sound and stable. I have lost a father to cancer, my grand father to cancer, and an Uncle to Aids. These are the strong men that loved me and shaped my life, I loved these men more dearly than anything on earth. To watch them die hurt more than anything I have ever known. Yes while they did die with dignity, I lost my father first, to hear his last cries, he cried not for his children, me and my sister were there for him at his bed, he cried for his own father, he cried out for his daddy. my grand father, to help him and save him. He was in his late 40's. I know that the nurses did all that they could to keep him comfortable, but to say the least it does take a lot out of one person to know when they are in their last days. Jack The Ripper	The two aren't comparable. Assisted suicide is an adult taking their life when they know that all they have left is suffering. I intend to hang on as long as I comfortably can if I have a terminal disease,but when the choice becomes unendurable pain or being so incoherant that it's pointless because of pain drugs then guess what,see ya cause I will check out. Abortion on the other hand is a murder,period. Thousands wait to adopt everyday,but some girl needs to kill her baby,Why? And many assisted suicides happen every year regardless of the law,I know for a fact that some hospice workers will help those who are tired of suffering sometimes. All it takes is just a little too much of some narcotic pain meds and a person in an already weakened state is going to go quite easily,and bravo to the hospice worker or nurse that will do that if the patient wants to go.
