Unions are terrible things, and a waste of money, and time. They cause nothing but problems between employer and employee relations. they break down communication between manager and staff, they hender economic progress. (vehicle industry, airline industry) they veil individuals from the herd, employees have no way to out source and advance with unions, becuz everyone is equal. Unions are evil.
What do you seek to gain from a union?
You do realize that they discourage advancment opportunities?

Yes you should. It shows support of your fellow employees. I wouldn't have the wages or the medical insurance or pension I have without the union.

Yes.
At a previous job, I had a co-worker attempt to rape me on the job. The company did NOTHING except blame for it. The only one who got behind me or did anything was the union (specifically, the commercial food handlers union). If I wasn't a union member, that loser would still be allowed to work at that particular company, even though he had had similar complaints in the past.

Unions are the only voice workers have. Do you think your company is going to look out for you, make sure you are treated fairly, have safe working conditions, sick leave, vacation, medical insurance, and retirement? Not likely. Join your union, yes, but do more. WORK in your union to make the job better for everyone.

If you are getting paid more than non-union people who have the same job, if you are getting better health benefits and other benefits such as paid vacation, etc. then it's because of your Union. There isn't a Union present unless there was a reason for a Union to be present in the first place. Most of the time, if you work for a place that has a Union, then you will be required to join the Union. It's only fair to support the people who got you the wages you are getting now.

We are union members... love the benefits and the pay... hate that we pay for their political agenda. Has its ups and downs...... but we are able to make a good living and right now that is good for our young family!

Your question is a bit puzzling. Usually employers don't have a union. A union is something that is created separately. The employer has management and the workers have their union. Unions aren't really employer sponsored. In fact, most employers probably would not want their employees to unionize. Therefore, you should join the union. It could give you leverage over the employer. You may see better pay, benefits, and working conditions as a result of joining the union. In most cases, it is worth the risk.

My union in SAFEWAY!!! takes a big chunk of money out of my paycheck weekly and monthly, they allow SAFEWAY to pay me minimum wage and screw with my hours. They don't even give full time if they don't want to. SAFEWAY and UNION sucks.
