If the DA brings more charges against you, does your attorney have to tell you?
I'm alittle concerned for my friend. He said his attorney said that the DA 'found some more stuff', but didn't specify what, regarding the charges. His attorney told him that he should just come to his court date, and hung up. I told him to get a new attorney, as this one doesn't seem to be competent nor truthful with him.

Yes your attorney has a duty to tell you what the charges are. It may be that the DA has not put together any new charges yet and his attorney needs him there to press the case forward before something new comes out. If they are having problems communicating then he should absolutely find a new attorney.

Your friend should appear at the arraignment to hear the charges against him or her. At this point, that's ALL that can be done. Show up, hear what the DA filed and go from there.

The attorney assigned to you can't do much without the charges being heard in court. DA's can change their mind at any time and often do. It's a wait and see kinda thing, so chill out, wait and see.

'more stuff' would probably just mean more evidence. What charges flow from that won't be known until the court appearance.

If there have been additional charges filed and the attorney knows about it, he probably has some kind of duty to advise the client. It's not one I'm familiar with, and I'm a criminal lawyer, but then, it wouldn't occur to me not to tell my client charges had been filed against him.

Whatever the case, though, an attorney cannot err by saying "you need to come to your court date." Whatever is going on with the new charges (if there are any) that's the most important thing. Don't get a new warrant issued for failure to appear. Don't piss off the judge. Don't irritate the prosecutor unnecessarily. Go to your court date. Find out what's going on. If the lawyer doesn't have a satisfactory answer... there are LOTS of other lawyers.
