There's something we don't yet know about that family, chav scum.
The only thing I'm outraged about is the cost of it all to the taxpayer.

You are saying you are outraged.
I can fully understand.
The first thing you must do, in my opinion, is get over it.
It may take a while as your outrage may take a little while to fully subside.
But, nevertheless, you should make every possible effort to get over it.
Many people, such as yourself, have possibly become outraged as well and, for them, I would only say that they should get over it as well.
So, here's what you do!
First thing to remember.
Getting yourself over this will make you, and others, feel much better.
Just... Get over it!

I believe she has been taken into protective custody for her her own safety She has been missing from home for over 3 weeks, and God only knows what this creature might have done to her in all that time. The police are doing what they have to do, nothing more. As a taxpayer, I have NO problem funding the investigation, especially if it see's another filthy pervert behind bars. I am just grateful for safe return after so long missing, and YOU should be too!!!!

The Police have done the right thing by not handing her back to the parents immediately. Something doesn't seem right about the case, but let's wait until the investigation is finished before we draw any conclusions.

Police need to be able to analyze all leads, if that means keeping child from parents, so be it.
Not all parents are good ones, some deserve to have their children taken into protective custody.

Do you think that court cases just happen? There has to be an investigation. The poor girl has to be interviewed by trained experts to establish how she was taken, how she was treated, the identity of her abductor and so on.
Also, as the chap is part of the extended family, they must make sure that none of the evidence is tainted by her mother being there. This way the girl will be able to talk more freely, and the police can then rule out any involvement of the immediate family.
If the police did not follow procedure, to the letter, and the case fell apart due to weakend evidence, you would be one of the first to register your outrage at the police for not doing their job properly

I have been watching on the news, but this is the 1st I've heard about social services. Something dodgy about the abductor knowing the father or step father, we will have to wait and see what emerges.
Edit, how would you know all this information Richard,?
they are hardly going to spill anything at this time.

At first, it does sound like she has been 'kidnapped' again, but it is just to question her gently, check her out medically, and prepare her for reality again.
The poor little girl must be so confused, whatever it is that has happened to her.
I was overjoyed to hear that she had been found, lets hope that whatever happens, her family take more care of her if/when she comes home.

Police said Shannon wouldn't be returned to her family immediately. Authorities are keeping her under emergency care until they can figure out what happened since she disappeared.

They need time to find out exactly what has happened. In Gordon Brown's Britain they probably have to fill out 5000 forms before they can start asking them questions.

The police have her in their custody right now, they didn't kidnap her. They'll make sure she gets medical and psychological care, as well as get as many facts as they can so they can hang the bastard that was keeping her tucked away underneath of a bed.

You have bad information. She is in protective custody while they finish the investigation, not in the social services care. There is some concern the parents may have been involved. Once the investigation is done and the parents are cleared, she is going home.

Looks like the police smell a rat.
So they are doing what they belive to be in the childs best interests. None of us know the full story but I get the feeling there is more to this than meets the eye.
I am going to get yelled at for this but no one in that family looks like they were top of the class.
The child was found in the stepfathers relations house. Something looks really dodgy in this picture.

I think it is entirely sensible, they must interview her carefully fwith trained staff...there may be medical examinations....and as the suspect is a member of the extended family....you would not want the Parents influencing her before any evidence is obtained....it may sound harsh....but thats how it works....

She was found being hidden in a family members house - the uncle of her mothers boyfriend.
She had been telling people she was in trouble with her Mom, and wanted to go and live with her biological father. Her mother had been telling police that she believed the girl was kidnapped by "someone close to me", and that the intent was "Just to hurt me", and had been telling the police to concentrate on Shannon's father.
I suspect the police are holding her in custody because they fear the mother set the whole thing up to try to "get" her ex by making the police suspect he kidnapped or killed his daughter.

Maybe they have reason to suspect the parents of some kind of wrongdoing. Maybe you should reserve judgement until you have all the facts.
