I think the death penalty is probably ok is certain scenarios. I think hanging someone is kind of barbaric though. It seems like it could have been done a little more tastefully. If that is a concern of the Iraqi's, which i don't believe to be the case. I am kind of on the fence with the whole Saddam issue too, our country has a history of making the "truth" up as we go and sometimes we find out later it wasn't the truth at all. What did Saddam do? I heard that he executed people that tried to assassinate him. Maybe he went about it the wrong way...but i think i would react fairly violently if someone made an attempt at my life. The whole Saddam issue is more puzzling to me than the capitol punishment issue. I just find it hard to trust our government after the past 5 years and all the conspiracy "theories" or plain old conspiracies that have been going on. Maybe i went a different direction then you were looking for but it's a tough topic.

I suppose your hunting opposed positions, so here's mine...yes, I agree with the death penalty. The only thing I really dislike about our system is that we have to feed the sorry bas**d for 20 years before the sentenced is imposed. Hanging, electric chair, doesn't matter to me!

I totally agree with the death penalty, i live in Texas so im used to seeing it. You should be put to death if you have killed someone, or have raped anyone, you should have to pay the consequences for your actions

I am against the death penalty. I am NOT against it because it takes a person's life, I think there are probably crimes for which a person should pay with their life.
But I am against it because, it causes a man to have to know the date of his death. The cruel part of the death penalty is that period of waiting, while the man is still alive, but knows that, on a certain day or date, he will be killed. That is what is wrong with it. It causes a man to have to be in misery waiting!

i guess i never really thought about it...i think if you have done something to deserve the death penelty....i would keep them alive.
find ways to conquer and see where they thought they needed to do what they did. get inside the problem. making the person disapear would only show that we are scared of them and thats all we know how to do?
i really dont know what else to say. i think that this can go on forever with out an ending.

I'm all for it, However I think that one should be put to death the same way their victim was. i.e you torture someone to death, you get the same thing. This way they know exactly what they put their victims through. Eye for an eye, and so on.

I personally believe in an eye for an eye, tooth for tooth. Though I think they should have waited to kill Saddam. I think they should have tried him for everything he did and everyone he killed! But as far as the death penalty, I think it's to soft. I think if someone rapes someone, they should get raped right back. If you shoot someone, then you need to be shot, ect.

You know what they say, if we believe in an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth, everyone just ends up blind and toothless.
Aren't we better than those who committed those crimes? Can't we find a higher road that still accomplishes our community goals?

I totally believe in an eye for an eye. but that is just me. I believe that you should be killed the same way you killed your victim. When it comes to kids I think the killer should substane a slow and painful death.

I disagree with it - for the following reason - I think it is crueller to keep someone alive for the rest of their life in a harsh prison with no comforts - allowing them to watch themselves slowly deteriorate.
Also gives them a few years to think about what they've done.
This relies on the fact that Life means life - not the current 13 years as in the UK
As I regard this as a crueller punishment than death I prefer it to the death penalty for some of the b*stards out there these days.
Having said that I shed no tears when some murderer or rapist does get the death penalty.

It depends on the situation. If the justicew system continues to be overcrowded, then the more vicious crimes should be punished with the most vicious penalty. Perhaps then there would be a deterent to stop committing the crimes.

As far as saddam he was try and hung by the people who suffer at his hands so to me he got what he deserved.
As far as the death penality goes I am for it. Considering some of the crimes they people committed we are not talking about accidental shootings or mistakes but some real cold blooded murders.
A better question we should be asking is why don't we start teaching our kids morals early on rather waiting for them to become adults? When a kid screams in the mall because he can't have a toy and call their parents all sorts of four letter words.
Than we wonder why there are so many criminals.
We need to teach discipline not feel good about yourself to our kids.
Is it perfect? No but there is enough safeties built it the odds are very good. Now what about the innocennt ones? This nation kills millions in the name of choice without a trail or having been accused of a crime in the name of choice so I don't buy into the idea people care about innocennt lives.
As far as a stopping crimes. I have yet to hear of anyone who got a death sentence every caught committing a crime ever again.

It's not for me, but then I never did what Saddam did.
Hanging, chair, axe, hemlock, the result is the same. Give the guy a choice.
You failed to describe what you think is fair or unfair about the penal system, so it's difficult to comment on it.

If you believe in the Holy Bible and go to Church, you should know not to go against the word of GOD. The Holy Bible is the basic foundation of the Constitution of the United States. I don't remember just where is says "that whosoever sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed." That makes it pretty clear. Murder is punishable by death. I know one of the ten Commandments says, "Thou shalt not kill". It however does not say that if you do, you are not to pay by death, because you are.
I believe in executions for murder. In fact I think that executions should be Public. If the younger generation was to witness an execution, they would think twice about killing someone for they would see first hand the penalty. Murders today would be far less if the killers knew exactly what would happen to them. I know that if I saw someone executed, I would think twice about killing someone.

I'm against it for the simple fact the murder is murder. Two wrongs don't make a right. People always told me that my opinion might change if someone close to me was killed, but when my uncle was shot in the alley behind my house my opinion stayed the same. I would like to see the person put in jail, but I don't think killing him is going to make me feel any better. It's not going to bring my uncle back and I don't think any family deserves to feel the grief that mine felt.

I am against the death penalty. It's hypocricy. Nobody deserves to be killed. I think that a life in solitary confinement would be more humane than killing someone, and it would be a much worse punishment for the person who had that penalty.

No government has the moral authority to control life and death. For that matter, no human being does. Control over life and death is seized by way of force, and the death penalty is as much a crime as any other form of non-defensive killing.

Personally, I feel the death penalty is a PERFECT way of dealing w/murders,pedaphilers,rapist and all other hannis crimes. I dont feel as though the people should have a right in our society to continue breathing let alone some of these people are getting educations which will never go to use the are social with people in jail which shouldnt be allowed. Our legal system as a country is poorly run with some exceptions. If you have ever lost a family member to murder I think you would change your view. I also think that if all states were smart enough to legalize the death penalty and i would assume lethal injection is the cheapest route I think crime would be lowered in many states at least it would make some think twice. We need to cut down on crime our country is a great country but we have all forgotten how to behave there are too many murders too many rapes too many kidnappings too much hate and it needs to stop being glorofied like on TV. soo to wrap on I agree with the death penalty

I am for the death penalty (gas chamber, hanging, electric chair, etc.) and wish the US would carry out its sentences faster. Instead we let the criminals rot in jail watching their cable TV while we the taxpayers are paying for it. Death sentences in the US need to be carried out faster.

There are a list of crimes, that when being committed, can legally be stopped with the use of Deadly Force. Any of these crimes, such as murder, rape, ADW, kidnapping and such, should be met with a swift execution.
One appeal, then 1 week to prepare. Execution by electric chair. Forget all that touchy feely 'inhumane' crap. When you deny an innocent person of their human rights, you vacate your own.
We not only need the death penalty, but we need it more often, and we need it televised.
People say it's not a deterrent, but that's because it's not done frequently enough.
People....we really need to start thinning out the herd.
And for those brain dead morons who say "nobody deserves to be killed", or "murder is murder"...I should only hope that you or your family never have to go thru the pain and anguish of losing someone thru violence.
I guess Hitler didn't deserve to die?
What about Mussolini?
