Can I legally "pull" a knife on someone if they have threatened me with a tennis racket?

Here's the story: Someone I know, (17) stated that he was going to "break a racket on my head." He then got out of his car, approached me with the tennis racket. At this time, I (14) took a knife out of my pocket, unfolded it, and pointed at him. Then he got back in his car and drove away. I know this question may sound stupid but it's important that I know.

You have a basic, fundamental human right to defend yourself regardless of what any bureaucrat, politician, or policeman (defenders of the aforementioned) say about it.

It depends on the level of threat, and how much did you contributed to the incident; for example if you provoke someone you have no right to claim self defense law, so pulling the knife after provoking the guy would be illegal.
Also in many jurisdiction you can still be charged for carrying a concealed weapon even if you have a valid reason to pull it out. It might not sound fair but that's the law.
But if I suggest you to keep your mouth shut if the cops come to question you.
EDIT
In North Carolina it's legal to carry a pocket knife (ussualy they mean 3 inches or less) http://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/BySection/Chapter_14/GS_14-269.html
But still it might be illegal to pull it out without a valid reason. If you are telling all the truth and you did't provoke the the guy then you might be Ok, but there are no warranties (remember: self-defense laws doesn't cover you if you provoke the other person).
You could certainly claim you feared for your safety but still it will be up to the police and DA to decide if they trust your story or not.
EDIT
By the way: next time run; pulling a knife might be a bad idea since it might force the other guy to pull out his own knife... or gun; then what could have been a "normal" fist fight could end with one dead guy and one heading to jail.
