Why has Britain become such a violent society?

Voice of Liberty
It is a natural subconscious resistance against Socialism. Don't worry though it will end... After the ensuing revolution topples the government and restores liberty to the people the violence will subside.

There has always been violence in the world but if there is more violence it's because parent's aren't strict enough... there are too many parents trying to be their children's friends rather than parents and kids can get away with anything with the excuse 'that's what kids do'.

Kids have nowhere to go so they hang around on street corners intimidating people.... the parents need to keep them at home or give them something to do!

These kids need to be set a good example... shown they should be working hard at school/college/university and then working hard in a job...

The media. Movies are supposed to represent our society. In my opinion, they actually give people permission to behave inappropriately.
We place too much value on gangster-types. We admire the "hard" types, rather than the cultured. We've become shallow, think only about ourselves. And people no longer condemn inapropriate behaviour. Do they still lock people up for being drunk and disorderly?

Because they have let too many Foreigners in, it is no longer the British way of life, now people have no manners, no code, no respect, no dignity, if they were to bring back Military Conscription you would see them all fleeing back to where they came from.

Parents are at a loss on how to handle the nessasary disaplin kids need to learn respect and proper social behavior. The uk govement has interfered so much in the rights of parents over the kids . It is violence now to smack or use harsh language on our kids . we can be arrested for makeing our kids behave.

if we touch or speak to our kids harshly then they say i have rights you cant t do that ill tell the cops. so we are stopped from changeing bad behaviour in them..

the govermet says we are responsible for there actions. yet we are constrained form handlenig our kids as we see fit in an appropriate mannor . so long as there is no abuse!.

i say if this is what the UK goverment wants then let them raise our kids. as far as im concerened the goverment can go stuff it. i will do what i see fit. if our kids ever do something wrong and will not listen to us as parents when we try to correct it and refuse our authority as parents, if they say i have rights ill tell the cops or if they do as most of the hoodies do . we will simply kick them out and let the goverment raise them.

it is harsh i know, but i will not be ruined by the goverment or kids out of control.

we need to stand up to the goverment and say get out of our family life. you need only be there id some one goes to far and causes real harm , this does not include bruiesd pride and a sore bum

Modern Society and Modern Law is to blame.

Why?

Well there are too many stupid laws which protect the lawless and hinder the honest law abiding citizen, as well as stupid advice, which inturn stops cases of the Have a Go Hero.

For instance, If someone holds you up with a knife and asks for your wallet, The Advice from the Police is to just hand it over, at which point when you report it, your recording of the events will just be put in the bin, because there is absolutely no hope of getting any results. However if you did fight back because of todays stupid laws and all the lawyers who have come up with ways to get guilty people off with the crime, the person who was being mugged ends up being the person sent down and you become a criminal for protecting what's rightfully yours.

If you have an Alarm System on your house, and a burglar tries to break in, falls off the ladder and injures himself, You get done because you never has a stupid sticker on your window saying that the house is alarmed.

The problem all boils down to money in the end, regardless of how you look at it. You need mone to keep people in jail, the more people there are in jail, the less money you have to pay for police and hospitals and so on, so they have to maintain a balance somewhere, so as there are more and more crimes, the bar of which is and is not an menial crime is raised, and these people are never really properly dealt with, More innocent people are less inclined to get involved as they themselves end up getting prosecuted, or get caught up in the crossfire, so therefore choose to sit it out, as they know that in the end the current laws are not gonna protect them.

As for the crimes themselves, because we are seen as a "Civilised Nation" yeah laugh it up i did say "Civilised Nation", then we are supposed to be more understanding and supportive, which is basically bull, yes i agree there are some circumstances which lead people down a certain path, but in the end we do all know a basic concept of right and wrong.

If you want it to be less violent, start bringing back tougher laws and punishments for the people who commit the crimes, and stop pinushing the honest law abiding citizen, if something doesn't happen soon then we will all slowly become criminals, so that we can have the criminal protection that these money hungry lawyers have created for the lawless.

My idea of punishments

Theft --- cut off a finger each time your caught, if you end up with no fingers then you certainly havent learned your lesson, so you should just be terminated.

Kiddy fiddlers and rapists -- choice between instand death or use them for product testing, that way it saves those poor little animals from being used.

The two ideas above should at least take 3/4 of the people out of the jails, which means we can have more money for police and so on. Keeping people in jail is pointless as its the honest law abiding citizen who is taxed to death to play for this.

They want to be just like America. It's too bad but societal changes seem to spread and that includes violence. I believe the gun lobby in the United States has got control of so many congressmen/women that handguns and other weapons proliferate in society. Where many people living in the United States once felt safe in their homes now feel that they must be able to defend themselves by buying weapons and owning large dogs.

Part Time Cynic
I came here 24 years ago and was shocked by the level of violence in English society. Over the years i have desensitized now.
Growing up as a child abroad i remember the news buletins always ending on a happy note. Since the last 10 years or so very rarely something positive gets mentioned on UK news bulletins in general.
People are in it for themselves. Children live in houses that are bought for profit rather than homes that were bought to raise a family in.
Crime against property usually gets higer sentences than crimes againt the person.

"A senior doctor at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital escaped jail after subjecting his wife to years of domestic abuse which culminated in a savage beating.
Dr Stuart Brown, 37, consultant in anaesthetics, admitted assaulting his wife after the "red mist" descended following an argument. Norwich Magistrates' Court heard how he pulled her to the ground and hit her more than 20 times.
Prosecutors told how Brown, who faces a disciplinary hearing before the General Medical Council, had been abusive throughout their seven-year marriage. Because he had no previous convictions and is of otherwise good character magistrates imposed a community penalty and ordered him to pay compensation."

It hasn't become, it always has been, and it's just getting worse :-(

It is the same as it always is. The media just dramatises and exaggerates it to make it seem worse then it actually is.

There is the occassional shooting, the occasional mugging, the occassional beating yes, but it is like that everywhere in the world and has been like that in Britain for a long time.
