I recieved a speeding ticket in California. What's the best way to get my fine reduced or dismissed?
This is my first ticket. I was going 75 in a 65 zone. I have the ticket the officer gave me. I'm asking this question while waiting for the citation in the mail to get more info about this.
Can I go to traffic school before my court date to reduce or dismiss the fine or do I have to go to court to even have a chance at reducing or dismissing the fine? I hear so many different stories from everyone I've asked about this.
It will cost you more to go to traffic school, traffic school doesn't dismiss or reduce the fine.
If you want the fine reduced, you'll have to go to traffic court.
People that don't want to pay outrageous insurance costs are the ones that go to traffic school.
I'm guessing you were going more than 75 but the officer only wrote you up for 10 over. I've never got a ticket for going 75 since that's the way everyone drives where I live.
Go to your local courthouse and contact the traffic division. You can speak to a traffic clerk and ask them this as it varies from state to state.
However, in most states, you can tell the Traffic Commissioner that you'd like to make a request for a fine reduction and that your finances are hardened. This may however, not allow you to go to traffic school. The Commissioner could extend your time to go to traffic school however after the judgement is handed down.
