Wow it's so hard to crack down on something like that. The only thing that stops a lot of people from doing crimes, is if they are scared to commit these crimes.. Maybe a huge fine for doing it. Not jail that's a little severe. I think you are exaggerating though. A car in the street that rides by shakes your windows. That seems hard to believe...

They are in my area, Riverside County, SoCal. A new law was just passed that says if your music can be heard clearly from a certain distance(I don't remember how far) the police can write you a ticket.

I know, I had a migraine and had to be picked up from school early because I was crying, but when my mom got to a stop light the person beside us turned the music up. My mom politely asked him to turn it down until the light turned green(it was one of those never ending red lights) and he smiled and turned it up louder. I sat up and started randomly screaming cuss words at him, but it made him laugh and turn it up even louder. I was about to get out and hit him, but my mom stopped me. It's disturbing the peace if you ask me. Are they speeding as they go down the street? Is it always the same person? You can file a complaint if they are super speeding, but that's the extent of the law. Sad, isn't it. My neighbor has hydrolics and an expensive stereo on his car, but he has the decency to keep them off at night.

It all depends on the department. If there isn't something else that needs to be handled, a good number of officers have no problem stopping and citing people for loud car stereos.
It is illegal and there is NO constitutional right to disturb the rest of the world with your "music" (contrary to other posts you may see here)

It is ridiculous, and it is actually illegal to play music at a certain decibel(spelling?) especially past 10 or 11pm. But there are probably like 2 cops for every 500-1000 people, atleast where I live. You can call the cops and they will get cited, and they might not come back, but otherwise there is nothing you can do. Until rap becomes obsolete, which in reality it is, then your gonna have to live with it.Call the cops next time and then people wont do it because they realize that SOMEONE is calling the cops. Be careful though, the "ganster" type can be very rude, and stupid. One time in my first apartment with my girlfriend, we had this ghetto family living next door. On super bowl weekend at 10:30 at night, they turned there music up so loud that the refrigerator, windows and everything was vibrating. I literally couldnt hear my own tv, which was about 3-4 feet away. I went over and kindly asked him to turn it down;in reply, he turned it up and left it up for another hour. Then the next morning at 11 am, he did the same thing. When I was outside he told me that he did that just to piss me off because "I disrespected him by asking him to turn down his music" Can you believe that? Its sad. Gansters are not people. They dont use their brain when they say or do things. I could go on all day. But..

People have been asking this question since cars and radios were invented.
Luckily any drug store or supermarket now has cheap and effective earplugs you can use while you sleep.

Generally, situations like this require someone to call the police to complain. They won't actively search for them unless they know that someone is bothered by the noise.

They sure do here. Living in the city it gets to be a major annoyance and is totally rude to the people trying to sleep. It was a major annoyance to those like me who have my windows open 9 months out of the year (it's georgia weather, gotta love it) Our city brought it in front of city council, and they passed a local noise ordinance. Now the police fine offenders. And they can't miss it because of all the signs that say "Quiet! Noise Ordinance in effect. Offenders will be fined $500!"
Maybe you can get your neighbors together and present your problem to your city council.

the law says that if you can hear the radio 50 feet away then its illegal. as far as the guy who said the pursuit of happiness crap that would apply to many other aspects of ife that police still crack down on. basicly it comes down to what most said about how they have other important things to worry about but they will stop and ticket people at times

During the day, it would be unconstitutional to crack down on someone for playing music loud (they have the right to pursue happiness). During the night, it depends on where said teens/young adults drive. Should it be in a residential area, police potentialy could arrest the teens for disturbing the peace, however, this is logisticaly unsound, since it would require dusk till dawn police survailence of said residential area.

Keep calling, and complaining. Eventually they will have to take enforcement measures. Contact your Alderman. That's what they get paid for.
