Do cops like that show, "Cops?" I was just curious. Can you tell me why or why not?
Additional Details Kebert- Good point. But what I was actually curious about was whether or not real policemen agreed with the overall "hot dog" behavior of these guys on television.
I don't like the show - I don't watch it. But it was on while I was over at somebody else's house, and I was sort of forced to watch like 2 episodes back-to-back. I was horrified.
I'm in the academy right now....so I still like it
but from what I hear, they don't.
Take whatever you do for a living, and imagine if you'd want to go home and watch a show about it.
Maybe, but at least from what I've heard, most cops don't watch Cops.
I think it's just an officer's preference. Some officers DVR it lol. I know a lot of cops who will refuse to watch it but on the other hand a lot of them will watch it an critique the officers performance and sometimes use tactics that they see while watching it.
Personally when I started in LE I loved watching it. I don't watch it so much now just because most of them are re-runs lol.
If I'm bored and don't have anything else to do/watch, I'll watch it for the entertainment value. Sometimes I pick up ideas for my own work - what to do/not to do in various situations.
I don't like it nor do I dislike it. If it is on I will watch it for what it is, entertainment. It is like any other reality tv show, edited for ratings and geared for entertainment. It is in no way an accurate portrayal of Policing. I dislike that people think that is what Police work is all about. Yes, Police do use force, but there are many many other calls where all you do is talk to people and play mediator. You never see that on COPS because it isn't exciting. I suspect there would be a whole lot less viewers if they followed on officer around for the whole shift and showed every mundane call.
