For what? Your going to waste a lot of time and money on trying to sue a police officer for what? It better be for something really worthwhile cause you'll be the one on the losing end if it isn't.

We had a police cruiser hit our car after he went the wrong way in a one-way parking lot, without blowing his horn or putting on his brakes beforehand. He was invisible from our cars' position. We contacted the city administrative office. They possess a department called "risk management", just to take care of their of legal problems when they occur - and they do. I'm sure counties and states have these departments, too.
You will find that you will probably need a lawyer to help them take you seriously, that is, if your problem with them is big enough to warrant one.
We found that our automotive insurance company doesn't help us legally at times like these, because we only carry liability. Because the damage was minor (it did matter to us, even if it was under $1000.00!), and we didn't have representation (the city has multiple full-time lawyers, which lets you know how often their employees mess-up), the best we could get them to agree to was a little more than half the cost of repair.
Cop couldn't drive, and gave us the only dent my car had...

Yes you can sue the police, as long as its a genuine complaint. they ae as culpable as anybody else.

Howeevr if you have a look there are way too many people who try and sue on weak grounds where they say some civil liberty ha=s been encroached upon, and forget that the police have a power to encroach on peoples human rights as long as they are following legislation.

My advise is speak to a solicitor first and see if you are wasting your money.

It depends on what you want to sue for. Theoretically, you can sue anybody for anything, but suing a police agnecy will be incredibly difficult.

First, your lawsuit, will be reviewed by the city attorney to determine whether or not you have a legitimate claim. If you do then the case will go forward.

However, police if your upset about how you were treated, because of something you did, or are just upset in general then you have even less of a chance.

????????
Yes. And then you better move because no one's going to want to come to your aid when you come calling for 911 help!

However, if it's a truly wrongful activity, you might be better to go to the District Attorney and see if the SBI or the state has any interest in your allegations. A good way to deflect the heat ( no pun intended) off of you as instigator.

Yes. But if your evidence of police crime is not more than a he said /she said exchange , you'll loose. You have to have documented proof. A vidio would be substantial but not necessarily enough proof.
In Canada , many city's police forces have been sue successfully. The RCMP has been sued. In most cases it is the officers indevidually that have been sued.

You can try, but you have to know that you are fighting a system in a system. You cannot win without video evidence of illegal activity.

Depends on what grounds you wish to sue them, just the same as anyone else...as you have valid grounds then you can if not no.

Since you didn't elaborate, let me guess. You were pulled over for something you didn't do, refused to show the identification REQUIRED by law, ran your mouth off and got slapped around resisting arrest? You weren't high or drunk, and they were looking JUST FOR YOU! Of course you are innocent of everything, right?

How close am i?

It's been done before. The governing body (city, county, state) will pick up the bill if you win. This could mean reduced services from that governing body to offset the costs, but yeah it happens. Rodney King sued and won vs. LAPD.
