Can officers please answer this: What do police officers think about citizens with PBA cards?
I have a card from a friend but I'm never sure when is the right time to use it or how to use it. Do you just hand it over when an officer asks for your info? Do you announce that you have one? Does it really get you out of tickets? Do they keep it so you only use it once? What are the rules?
I'm not a reckless driver and have only gotten pulled over once in the 5 yrs I've been driving but I was just wondering what I should do if the occassion arised where I'm stopped by an office and still have my pba card. How do you use it and in what situation?
I don't care if a civilian has a gold plated PBA sticker issued to them by some divine being. It doesn't mean anything to me except that they gave some money to the PBA and the PBA gave them a sticker (or card or whatever). It's not special and won't get you out of anything with me.
I'm a member of the PBA but because I am a Police Officer I pay dues and the PBA agrees to represent me with legal help if I need it. The PBA is nice to join if you're an Officer but even the PBA has limits on what they will defend you on.
There is a difference between a civilian giving a donation to the PBA (or some company claiming to be the PBA) and an Officer who pays dues to the PBA.
Texas Star is correct 100%. Trying to use one of these cards or putting a PBA decal on your car is an invitation to a citation, safety check, and anything else a real LEO can think of doing. .
