Can i anonymously call the cops and tell them about drug activity?

Mike C	rediculous. if you call the cops on your friend you are so low. the only reason you know about it is because they trust you enough to tell you this, or allow you to find this out. If you're really that adamant about keeping the streets clean or whatever, tell your friend that you won't put up with that in the area that you live in. I can't believe all these posters before me think you should rat your friend out. You will damage this person's life if the cops get him/her on coke charges. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

man on fire	Wow you would actually do that to your friend? You are worried about him getting busted so you want to get him busted faster? You realize that by ratting him out you will RUIN his life. Get that you will RUIN his life. He will go to jail and have that on his permanent record. He will never again be able to get financial aid for school and get a higher education. He will have trouble finding a job ALL HIS LIFE because of your decision. You will most likely endanger yourself, your family, and your friend by ratting him out. You could even be found guilty by association. Getting the police involved unless it is an immediate life or death situation is rarely a good option. Think about what you are about to do...you are about to ruin your friends life because you think you know what's best for him. Want to help him instead of destroy his life? Eggchick	You can call the police and not identify yourself, however, police have caller ID these days so they will likely know where the call came from. If you tell them you wish to remain anonymous, they are required to abide by your wishes. If you inform on your friend, it may be some time before the police can do anything about it, if they can do anything at all. They cannot simply walk up to his door and ask him if he is selling drugs. And they cannot get a search warrant without probable cause and your informing them of the drug activities, unfortunately, is not probable cause. Also, keep in mind if your friend does get busted and there is ever any question during a trial as to where the information came from that put the police onto your friend's activities, the court can order the police to divulge your identity. Debbie	No they won't do anything because it would just be "heresay". They can't search a home based on "heresay". Now they might get an undercover cop to befriend you friend and bust them that way. But they have to acutally catch someone selling before they can bust them. Just keep trying to talk to your friend but don't get involved in any of their illegal activities. rukidding	I think so. They will try hard to get your name, but you don't have to tell them. I think you can get paid in some places if you're an informant. Amy	Absolutely. Every county or city should have a tip line to report drug activity anonymously. If the number is not in your phone book, just call the police station and ask for that number. If they don't have one, you could ask to speak with someone in that department who works narcotics. You could give them the info and you don't have to give your name. Was this answer helpful to you? However, you can contact the police and see what they have to say. You also have to consider whether or not you want this person who knows you, knows a lot about you and your family, to be really, really angry at you. Is it worth it? . RetroRanch	Yes. You can be anonymous. It really doesn't matter if you give your name or not, anyway. Now, don't expect them to roll into action on him. They know of many people who are dealing. The trick is not to know about them but to buy from them, and that has to get in line with all the other narcotics work. But you never know. His name might be already associated with someone they're working on. Don't call back just to see if anything is happening. No one gets told anything they don't need to know. Southern Belle ☆	They will take it into consideration, however, they can't go bust them or anything like that based on what you have to say. I'd recommend talking to an officer you see in a parking lot or at a store, just ask him or her if you can speak to them for a moment, and tell them what's going on and where, and ask them if they can beef up patrol in the area. Give them names, locations, descriptions.
