it doesn't necessarily have to be your parents to be driving with you. and no, you need someone else in the car with their license over the age of 21, even if you're 18 and ONLY have your permit

No matter what age you are, if you only have your permit you must have a licensed driver over the age of 21 in the passenger seat to be able to drive. However, you don't have to get your permit at all if you are over 18. You can go straight to taking your driving test provided you pass the written exam first.

Varies in every state... some states in US you have to be like 17 to drive only and in others like Mississipi, you only have to be 15 1/2 and have a job to drive on your own... so tell us the state or look up your state laws... its always in the driver handbook 1st pages

i don't know what its like where you live, but here in maryland after you get your provisional license (after learner's permit), you can drive by yourself. It doesn't matter how old you are.

To get your permit you can take the classes online, but you have to drive up to the DMV to get your actual permit card and get the picture taken etc...
when you obtain your permit you can only drive with your parents or anyone of the age of 21 or older with a registered license and insurance.
But when you take the driving test and pass then you can drive with anyone you want, they might tell you, you can only drive with one person in the car for the first year but that's a lie. You can't get in trouble for having more then one person with you.

That's for Florida, at least.

different states have different rules. I know here in florida you are able to get your permit at 15 but have to drive with someone over 21 till you've had your permit for a year. When you turn 16 as long as you've had the permit a year you can get your license and be allowed to drive by yourself with certain time restrictions. At 18, if you haven't gotten your permit yet you can just go for your license. As far as tests, before you get your permit you have to take this drug and alcohol class which is like a 4 hour class (which can be taken online..I did) and pass a test. Then you have to take your permit test which is just a written test on the computer at the DMV and then your driver's test at 16 with an instructor.

NO, you have to drive w/ your parents until you are 24. hahaha. just kidding.
yes you can drive by yourself as soon as you get a license. You only need an adult (it doesn't have to be parent ,just someone over 21) in the car with you when you have a permit.
to this get this license you need to be 16 1/2 and have parent consent.

You get your license and you can only drive with immediate family (like brothers, sisters, mom, dad, son on). But six months after you have it you can drive with your friends and everything, and you get to drive by yourself whenever you want. You go to a driving school and that's where your taking the driving test, you take classes there.

It is possible to be 18 or over, and only have a permit.

In which case you have to have a licensed adult in the car, but that person does not have to be a parent.

the ages and particulars vary from state to state in the US.

When you are 15 you can get your permit but you have to drive with someone who is 21 or older. When you are 16 you can get your license and drive by yourself. You usually have to go in to the DMV and take the test, but if you take drivers ed in school then they can give you a form if you pass the class and you can just go and get your license at the DMV without taking the test to get your license. You have to go and take the test to get your permit, but that is just on the computer. When you go take the test to get your license you have to do the computer test and a driving test, unless you pass drivers ed.

You can never drive by yourself with a permit. With a permit alone you must always have a licensed adult to drive with you. If you are licensed at 16 (called a restricted license) you can't transport people unless you have special written permissions saying that you can transport people to and from school only. Being licensed at 16 allows you to transport yourself to and from work. But when you are licensed at 18 you can drive by yourself until 11PM. You are not allowed to drive on the road during 11PM-5AM until you are 21. (That's why the test examiner ask me if I was 21 or over) Being 16, you have to log 50+ hours of driving time under the wheel and you must go through a Driver Training Course (usually available at most high schools). After that you have to take your permit test and pass.

If you're 18 or older with a license- you can drive any time with any one.
Regardless of your age, if you only have a permit, you MUST have a licensed driver with you when you are driving. Being 18 or older, I don't think the parent or guardian is enforced like it is for a 15 or 16 with a permit.
