Progressive insurance auto full coverage?
I've had progressive insurance now for an year, I renew every 6 months. However I'm not too happy with the dollar increase every renewal. Is this normal? I have full coverage and pay $84 now (monthly)

I've never had a ticket, no accident whatso ever in my life. So I would like input whether or not all/most auto insurance charge you an increase for insurance renewal?

Please DO NOT tell me it's cheaper to pay a lum sum to get a discount, I can NOT do this.

In all my years of having insurance and working in insurance, I have NEVER heard of rates increasing at renewal. This generally only happens if you've received a ticket or had an accident during the term of the policy. Also too, if you move or add a vehicle, or add coverages, can also increase your premium.

Usually you receive a discount at your renewal, for keeping your policy and staying with the company. I would contact your agent and question them as to the reason for the increase. I would also consider switching insurance carriers

Typically, insurance rates are filed by the various insurance companies that are licensed to do business in Texas vary by ZIP Code. Some companies have rate adjustments periodically, and you may have gotten caught up in a territorial rate increase.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

I have used Progressive for many years and am more familiar with the "independent agent" version of Progressive, but, we have other companies that are sometimes less expensive.

You didn't mention your driving record - and Progressive runs a credit score. Any changes in bill paying habits that might affect your score? Are you married or single? Now, don't take offense at this (and it's NOT me, it's THEM) but, some companies will say "Hmmmmm....35 year old single female....she's probably out hitting the club circuit and that makes her a worse risk!" Have you thought about making payments by EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)? Sometimes it is less expensive than if the company sends you a bill in the mail - some people LOVE it, others HATE it! Some would rather get a bill in the mail and mail it when they KNOW their money is in the bank!

What is your occupation? Some companies offer discounts for various types of occupations and give credit for STABILITY. Mercury Insurance has a pretty good discount for educators and scientists. Do you own a house or do you rent? How long have you lived there? How long have you been on your job? How far do you have to commute to work?

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you'll find that MOST of them are going to run a credit score and you may not know the questions to ask or the answers to give to some impersonal rep on the phone or Internet!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps

heck i was paying $115 a month. through Allstate... but i found a cheaper place. You will have to check with an agent to see if they can aquire it but it was through Ohio casualty ins. they covered mine as long as i was carrying one vehicle under full coverage... good response... I really like it and its cheap because they dont do regular insurance like other companys just full coverage.
oh and i dont live in ohio.... north carolina

You should shop around then. There are plenty of insurance companies web sites that will allow you to get a free price quote. Geico, All State, American Family come to mind. As I understand it, Progressive tends to cater to drivers who have had less than a stellar driving record (myself included). Basically the best thing you can do is scour the market for the best deals.

it depends on a lot of things. an increase at renewal is not unheard of. did your state take a rate increase on liability? did progressive have a rate increase on comp/coll? is your credit lower than when you started the policy? all these things can plauy into it. if you are unhappy (and i was too with progressive, for different reasons) call an independent agent who can shop around for you and find you a good company with good rates.

Yes, generally, people do see increases in insurance every year. They're generally very small, except when you get a new car, which usually happens every 2-3 years.

Also, if your credit score is on a downward spiral, that's going to affect your renewal rates, too.

Destiny,,,, do a little comparative shopping. Also, do a little research on the rates history in the last year or two in your area. I think it's a sign of our lil bit shaky economy. I will also share that I used Progressive for years, and twice I was in an accident not of my fault, and they took care of me in wonderful fashion!!!
If AAA has auto insurance in your area, they are also exquisite, and possibly a bit less expensive.

Hope this helps., and good luck!
