No, I don't think so. Back in my youth, many states had "Dawn to Dusk" licenses for kids who worked on farms, and I got my license at 14. I think starting to drive at 14 made me a much more responsible driver. While I understand the thrill of getting behind the wheel and the freedom it presents, if given a good education, a teen will become a responsible driver. I have been driving for more than 40 years -- not one speeding ticket, not one traffic violation, and only one accident on an icy road. My insurance company loves me. I think that licensing past age 16 causes a lot of teens to be chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel, and they become reckless and crazy at their new found freedom. Like anything, start a child as young as possible with the proper education, and the child is more likely to be responsible, and less likely to screw up.

Nope I started driving when I was 16 and everybody says I'm a really good driver, and I got my permit at 14 but didn't even drive until I was 16.
If your comfortable with driving then I think it's a good thing.

no, I think it's okay to drive at 16, I'm 16 and I drive. But for the people out there who say yes, I think it depends on the maturity level of the kid and wether or not they understand all of the rules of the road and everything like that.
I hope this helps :]

i got my license when i was 15 1/2
just depends on your parents i guess
because insurance isnt cheap for
young driver's.
I'm 18 now and insurance is STILL
high and i've never had a ticket or a wreck!
I think 16 is a fair age to drive tho

It depends on the maturity level of the kid in question. Generally speaking, however, I think a normal kid is okay to drive at 16.

For most people of 16 yes it is too young. Even at 17 it is causing problems with the attitude of young drivers.

No def not. even if they push the age back to like say 18 then 18 year old wouldnt be the best drivers and people would say theyre too young....just like with the drinking age, it went from 18 to 21 so now 21 yr olds get wasted out at bars more and drunk dirve..if they push it to 25 then itd be 25 year olds doing that
no matter what age it starts people will think oh 16 oh 18 oh 25 is too young to drive because they are bad drivers, when in reality its just that they're new drivers

Over all I would say NO thats not to young but it really depends on the maturity and commonsense of the teen.

I don't think sixteen is too yonug to drive. What really makes someone a good drive anyway? Experience so you have to start somewhere. Being 16 you are completely capable of holding a steering wheel and using control. Kids play so many video games now adays I think that they know how to do that. Sixteen is a good age. Probably the yougnest though it shouldn't be lowered.

16 isn't too young to drive. it is just right to learn, more than drive, though.

Yes. 16 year olds are physically, emotionally, and mentally entirely too immature to be behind the wheel. I was a horrible person at 16, why I was allowed to get my license is beyond me. I think it should be 18, there would be a LOT less accidents. I also believe that people need to be retested for their license at age 65 to get these old crappy drivers off of the roads.

YES!! I think you should wait till you are at least 18. My sister just turned 16 and got her drivers license. She totaled my parents car in less then 48 hours and then got our other car stolen because she didn't lock the door. She said it was because she forgot or wasn't thinking.
16 is to dam young and you are still growing up and showing off with your friends and driving is a very big deal and takes a lot of responsibility. you have a deadly weapon you are driving around and need to know what you are doing and appreciate it when you have the chance.

NO 16 is great if the teen is paying for their car, then they'll be more responsible and not do stupid things.

Yeah. If your from the UK at least. You have to be at least 17 to practice and take the tests. Insurance is too high at this age too which prevents most of the young teenagers from the UK getting a vehicle. What you could do is focus on your exams, then when you get your free time, start taking lessons, pass exams, get your license. Then you dont have to wory about it.
Also the longer you have your license the lower the insurance. By the time you are 19 your insurance price will drop dramatically!
Good Luck!
