In the UK, when can I go to the post office for a new tax disc?

I am the new owner of my vehicle, I want to get some tax, I don't want to lose a months tax by getting it too early. Can I get the tax tomorrow, or do I need to wait until Saturday?

i would get it now that way your covered what ever and you can get it for 6 or 12 months.and if it runs out on saturday then you're only loosing 2 days are you not?.also if you're the new owner then you're not loosing anything really are you.

you best waite till the 1st . if you tax it on the last day of the month the disk will run from the first of that month , unless it is already taxed then i think you can tax it up to 2 weeks before the old disk runs out . best to ask at your post office.
ps paul f ................2 weeks early only if the vehicle has a current tax disk

You can renew your tax disc up to 14 days before the new one is due to start. You do not lose anything by buying early as the new disc always starts from the 1st of next month in these circumstances. You must have insurance that provides cover for the day on which the new disc begins, and an MOT to cover that day too if your car is 3 years old or more. You do not need the DVLA form, but if you don't have it you will have to fill out a V10 at the post office and provide the log book (V5) in your name. If the car is already registered to you it is much simpler to do it online!

Depends what date it says on the tax disk that is in your car at the moment. It will tell you when the tax expires. You should also get a thing come through your door that you take with you to the post office.
