I'm no insurance expert...but I believe liability coverage covers the driver...collision covers the car (and the owner of the car is responsible for deductibles, etc). Naturally, as stated above, the person who wrecked should have some ethical obligation to help the owner out.

as far as I understood my friends that had the same thing happen to them, the owner of the car is responsible for the repairs. Now if its a friend, the nice thing to do would be to help out, but I dont believe there is legal obligation to do anything.

The person who wreaked the car is responsible. The owner's insurance may pay for it, but either they or the owner can sue and win to get repaid.

Good question!
The person at fault pays. That is, if you were driving and some knucklehead caused the accident, he/she pays.
On the other hand, if it was your fault, the owner of the car pays. Naturally, you should make every effort to pay for what you did and preserve a friendship.

The owner's insurance would be responsible, and the driver would be responsible for any deductible.

You have not provided enough facts.
Also are you asking the moral or legal obligation?
Is your insurance actually paying to repair?
Or is it his insurance? or both?
Even if your insurance is paying for ALL the repairs, and you are paying the deductible your friend's car has been devalued by the occurrence. She deserves compensation for this devaluation.

Here's the CORRECT answer. First off, it depends on who's responsible for the accident. If it's the other driver, then their insurance will cover it. If it's you (the borrower of the car), then the car owner (person who lent you the car)'s insurance will cover it, but the owner and/or his insurance company could sue YOU (the borrower) for damages. If you are a true friend you should be offering to pay for the damage IF it was your fault; if it was NOT your fault then let the other guy's insurance company deal with it. Hope this info helped.
