talk to your insurance agent so your son can get his own policy. its already expensive since he is 16. the rates can go up another 10 - 25%. he needs to keep his record clean or subject himself to cancellation when the policy expires. your state may have a state pool to place him in a random company that would be required to accept him and might be expensive since the state pool is for individuals who may be rejected as a high risk.
good luck

Insurance companies do not usually run DMV reports unless there is a change in the policy.
If you go to add or remove a vehicle or if someone were to make a claim on the policy the chance of the ticket being discovered is greater.

Depends on what company you're with, what state you're in, and what kind of ticket it was. The company I work for charges approximately 20-50% more for a speeding ticket, depending on how bad it is. That's in addition to the inexperienced operator charges that are already in effect that have already increased your policy by 40% or so. Is this his first violation? Some insurance companies (like mine) will waive the first ticket. And I know in NC, on a first violation, you can go to traffic school for 4 or 8 hrs (again, depending on how bad the ticket is) and the ticket never goes on your record. You just have to pay for the class. However, if you get another ticket within 3 years, they pick up the old ticket and you get charged for both. Someone stated that DMV only checks your record if there is a change in policy. That doesn't apply everywhere. My company runs record checks every time the policy renews (every 6 months for auto policies). The best thing to do is call your agent and see how your company handles situations like this. Your agent can likely also advise you on how to get rid of the ticket or get it reduced. It never hurts to ask. And also, if that were my son, he'd be getting a part time job and he'd start pitching in on those premiums. I've paid my car note AND my insurance since 16, my future children will do the same. It teaches them responsibility and they also learn the value of money - which is something many kids today know absolutely nothing about.

It depends what type of ticket. A parking ticket will not likely make your insurance go up at all. On the other hand, a speeding ticket can make it increase greatly. If given the chance, take your son to court, pay the fine, and it will likely not go on his record, so no higher payments.

My 16 year old set a record by getting his first speeding ticket 45 minutes after he got his license. We were very concerned that our insurance would be through the roof, however it didn't got up at all. I have heard that you should ALWAYS shop for insurance online two months before yours expires. Your insurance company will know you are shopping and this may keep them from raising your rates. Also, pay for the full year at one time if you can as this prevent them from raising your rates mid-way through the year. Hope your son doesn't break my son's record.

Zero! So long as your son does one of the following:
(1) Go to court, and somehow win there, even if by default.
(2) Pay the fine and go to traffic school.
(3) Have a reliable friend or connection with the cops.
