I have to go to court because of a car accident. What happens?

I was in a car accident in December. Two months later in the mail I got a ticket for Failing to Yield at a stop sign (so you know, I did stop at the stop sign, I just accidently pulled out in front of someone while trying to get onto a busy street). Anyways, apparently I have to go to court before I can pay the ticket.
What happens at the court? I guess they just want me to realize how serious it could have been, but what do they do?
Does the other girl involved have to go to? She is also a minor.
What happens if they set the court date for a day when I am out of the country for my Spanish class trip? Can I reset the date?
PS. No one was hurt in this accident

I can't change the date of my trip either. It's a big trip to Costa Rica for Spanish, and I've paid for it already. Lol.
And the other girl was not given a ticket. I was found at fault for the accident.

ive been through it. if you plead guilty you dont have to go to court just mail in the ticket and the fine.
if you have to go to court you basically argur the ticket and try to get it dropped.

You'd better show up for your court date or reschedule it through the court clerk or you'll have a warrant for your arrest. LOL.

Call the court facility your supposed to go to, they can advise if your able to get an extension if it interferes with your trip.
Sounds like a moving violation citation unless you didn't have insurance at the time of the accident and therefore should only be a fine.

The chances are you have to appear because it was an accident, and so they can set the fine for your ticket. If you are a minor, one of your parents will also have to be there. If the other girl got a ticket, she should have to appear at a different time. If they set a court date, and you are supposed to be out of town, I would cancel my trip. You have to appear or they can issue a bench warrant for your arrest. It happened to me. They only thing they will probably do is make you stand in front of the judge, he will swear you in, you should get a chance to tell your side. Based on what you say, his mood and judgement, he will set your fine and court costs. You normally have thirty to sixty days to pay the fines and court costs. If you have any more questions, email me. Oh, and you may have to pay some damages, but your insurance should take care of it.
