Hi, I haven't taken the test yet but I used to drive everyday (for years) and since I'm not from the UK I need to go through the whole process again...
It could be VERY frustrating; are you taking lessons? I would really encourage you to do it, even if you can drive. Most of the people fail the first time (the rate is supposed to be 8 out of 10 that fail) so don't feel bad, it's just like that, and basically the main reasons to fail are observation and what they call "dangerous driving" (make someone lower their speed because of you, obstruct, etc) stalling shouldn't be the reason why you failed, if it ever happens to you again while taking the test, just "secure the car" (handbrake up, neutral, first gere, etc) and keep going.
I'm taking lessons now, and they're really helping, at least to understand what they're after.
Good luck in the next one! My first exam is on the 10th of April but I'm already mentally prepared to take another one if necessary... good luck girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky because I never had to take one. I swapped my Canadian license for a British one - but I did study the rules of the road here.

Passing first time isn't necessarily a good thing - I did and realise that friends and family who failed once or twice are better drivers.

Passed first time because i had a very good instructor and i spent any time i had driving around the country. Some times i would drive up to 200miles in one day on many different kinds of roads and conditions (obviously i had a qualified driver beside me)
I would suggest you to try driving about so it gets you confident and relaxed. Most people do very little when they are learning. With a friend you should drive in the areas you likely to do your test on so it gives you more practise. Try using a car you like to drive for your next test as this can help.
You may find it goes better next time because you know what to expect.
Good luck and keep calm

I passed first time but I was lucky.
My partner passed on her 6th attempt. Just keep trying. youy'll get there, you'll have been nervous the first time, hence the stalling but I 'm sure you 'll be fine on the next one.

Passed 2nd time a month ago. Don't worry about failing. Your instructor wouldn't have put you in for the test if he thought you weren't good enough. A lot of it is luck on the day. Just don't beat yourself up about it hun. It's easier the second time around because you know what to expect. My lesson before my test was terrible. Made so many mistakes so i really thought i would fail. Luckily i had a lovely examiner who put me at ease. Good luck and don't give up!

Try taking Kalms a natural anti stress pill...you were probably so nervous that your legs felt a bit jelly like, hence the stalling. It took me my third attempt to pass, the first time I failed, I felt like you, the second time made me determined to pass as I knew I could do it...maybe the confidence I had by the third attempt made me appear competent, but still nervous.
You will do it...book another test now...your instructor would not have put you in for one if he didn't think you were capable=]
Good luck on your next one=]

It took me five times to pass as I used to get so nervous. Although I felt crap at the time as all my friends passed first time, I do think it's made me a better driver in the long run! Just keep trying to get cancellelations, never give up - you'll pass soon enough. Good luck!!

Keep plugging away. You will get there. It is good to be a bit nervous on your test as it keeps you alert.

Nerves are a big problem. I'm sure you're a competent driver, but at the end of the day you need to be calm! Try some relaxation exercises, they may help you for next time.
Good Luck!

Three times,in the days when horse and carts ruled
the roost.I had never driven before and had booked a test
so on the day of my first test i borrowed a car, then failed.
Second time around i drove round on some private land,
failed.Third time bought an old banger and passed in that.
So take heart, next time you will pass if you keep your
confidence high,Good luck.

I passed on my 2nd attempt. My mother died 10 days before my first test so failing it was not really a surprise! I'm a firm believer in mind over matter - just tell yourself "It'll be great if I pass but if I don't, the world won't end overnight!" Take the pressure off of yourself and you'll be surprised at what you can achieve!
Good Luck!

If your nervous use some herbal tea before ur test, it helps you relax.
and even if it takes you a while, u can always do it again.
think positive, i know someone who took 13 times. you will eventually get there.

Passed third time - and only after I calmed down about the whole thing!
It was nerves that made me rubbish on my first 2 attempts - in lessons I was fine!
I gave up for a while, changed to BSM and passed after 3 lessons - when I was calm!

Passed car and bike tests first time.
It's a nerve racking experience so just look at the first time as practise and you'll have a better idea what to expect second time around so you won't be so nervous.
Good luck.

Well, I failed twice before passing the third time. Don't worry, trust me it's all about luck! You can be the worst driver and still pass the test, you will pass eventually. It's probably nerves, try to keep calm, at the end of the day, it's only a driving test!
If you make a mistake, like stalling, don't think about it, because most of the time, it's just a minor fault! Every time I made a mistake, I just ignored it, and still had hope that I will pass because it could just be a minor fault, and that won't fail you. You need to have confidence, or you will continue to make silly mistakes that you wouldn't usually make on your lessons.
Just keep thinking positive and continue with weekly lessons... tell your instructor to help you with your weaknesses, and make sure he takes you on mock driving tests to help you feel comfortable with your routes.
Good luck!!!
