First, you'll have to apply for a lost title and you'll have to do that from the state or county agency. That may take a few months.

If you want to get in big trouble, try selling it without these items! My question would be to you, where did you get the car? That paperwork should have be transfered over? Be very carefull with what you do with this car!

You can apply for a lost title IF you had one, the registration is usually not required to sell a car. The only other way is to cut it up and sell it for scrap steel, unless the car is no longer road legal and the intended buyer is looking for parts, then it would depend on the state where you live. Best bet contact your local DMV. IF there is a title that was ever in your name for the car, you can also have the person go to the DMV with you and transfer it there on the spot. People lose titles all the time, if you had one, it is your car and there are records of it being in your name.

You'd have to be crazy or dumb if it's stolen. So please try it.
The only way is if it is "junked" but then it has to be a non-running car.
You're basically hosed. If you try to claim it as yours you're going to get run through the computer. You have to go to the Secretary of State or Dept of Motor Vehicles. It has a different name in every state, but it's where you get your Driver's License.

Do you own the vehicle? If it is registered to you, you can get a duplicate title from the DMV granted there is no lien on it. If it is not registered in your name, you cannot sell it. If you bought the car, register it immediately.

Are you buying or selling the car? If you are the buyer I would run away from the deal as quickly as possible.
If you are the "owner" you would know if you received it illegally and could find yourself in jail for attempting to sell a stolen vehicle.
Go to www.carfax.com and run a report on the VIN of this vehicle for a full history report.

You don't. Cars are sold by title, it you don't have one you have no right to sell it.
Every vehicle has an owner, have the police run the VIN and they will tell you if it's stolen or not. They won't be able to tell you who the owner is, but they might contact him for you.

May have been received illegally? This warrants a further explanation. You cannot sell it without the title. Did it just show up one day or what?
