Cheapest car insurance for a 17 year old girl?
I'm 17 in a month and i want to learn how to drive. I will have lessons and pass as soon as possible but i want to know the cheapest option to drive after that. I could drive my mums car and be put on her insurance, or buy my own and have my own insurance, or buy my own and be on her insurance ( can you have 2 people on the same insurance but with two seperate cars or not?) sorry i dont know alot about insurance.
I wont have a lot of money to spend on insurance and a car ( i've worked out i could have roughly £1000) but im not sure whether i could afford insurance and a car. I would obv prefer to have a car of my own aswel, i dont mind whether its an absolute banger either!!!
sorry for the waffle :P
what is my best option???
Additional Details
in the uk btw

For auto insurance the obvious way to get a good rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar policies with the same limits, car type, location, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I always recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have discount insurers and can give multiple quotes on auto insurance polices.

First, before you buy a car, take a defensive driving course and keep the documentation for it when you pass. Here in the states, almost all the insurance companies give discounts for defensive driving courses.

Then, if you're parents have faith in your current skill, have the car in their name with you listed as a SECONDARY driver. They will be the primary. They don't have to take out a separate policy, but, they should be able to add you to their existing policy. With your age, yes, the premium they pay will go up noticeably. However, as long as they only list you as a driver on 'your' car, it shouldn't be too terribly bad. Make sure the insurance company knows that you will not be driving the other vehicles on the policy. Most companies give multiple car discounts.

Fully expect their premium to double simply due to your age. However, you would be paying twice what they pay now if you took the policy out on your own.

And having a low key car is a good idea too. Nothing sporty. Sedans are good, coupes are bad.

take public transit!

the rule is...cheap insurance isnt worth getting! if you can't afford getting a good insurance company, you have no reason to be driving! It's not something you want to hearing, but its the truth! Because if you have an accident...and accidents happen all the time! you accidentally get into a crash where someone else dies, by your behalf. Your insurance covers the minimal to allow you to drive. Say the insurance covers 25000 for the accidental death. is 25000 enough to cover your loss if that was your family or friend? just something to think of!

We don't know, this is a world wide public forum. I am in the USA and I would get on the phone and start calling around to different companies to find the best prices and coverage.

I passed my test at 19 (4yrs ago) I managed to get a Mk 1 fiat punto for £300 and my insurance was just over £700. Women get it much cheaper than men and if your a student some companies will offer a discount with your nus card, which is what i did. If you're in the same boat i would suggest you contact endsleigh they were fab and the cheapest by far. I wouldn't recommend being put on to your mums policy as you are not earning your own no claims bonus and if you have an accident you will both have to start from scratch

Also look into taking the pass plus course as that lowers the price of your insurance some more

Hope this helps x
