Car insurance renewal & no claims certificates?
|
My car insurance is up for renewal soon, I had 1 year no claims before the current policy (but no certificate to prove it) and havent claimed during it. When I renew I like to look for the best price which may mean not sticking with my current insurer. If I change insurer and they ask to see proof of my no claims how can I prove I have 2 years? Will my current insurer issue me with a certificate saying 2 years (1 year with them added to the 1 year beforehand) or just 1 year? The other issue is that surely this certificate will arrive AFTER I want to begin my new policy??
Any advice would be much appreciated Additional Details Thank you for all the answers so far. A couple seem to have minsunderstood what I meant though, I'm not asking where I can get cheap insurance but just about the process of changing insurers and how they know your no claims etc.

You may have to just give the new company the policy number and your old insurers name and they will check it themselves.
The renewal document/quote for the old insurer may need to be sent to the new insurer to prove entitlement.
They usually take it on trust for a few days until you can get the stuff to them if needs be. Do not worry, this happens everyday to thousands of people. Your new insurer will tell you what to do and what they need.

when you get your quotes they will ask how many years u have so u need to tell them u have 2 yrs. If u take out an alternative policy they will either ask to see evidence (this can be your renewal schedule which will show your no claims bonus and current insurance details) or they will ask for your insurance details insurer and pol no and check themselves. If u then can't provide proof then they can either cancel or increase your premium.

If you decide to change they should be able to write something to the insurance company letting them know that you have no claims plus no tickets.

your current insurer will issue proof of your total no claims eg 2 years if you can ask for it as earliest as possible to prevent any disputes with the new company because if you dont get it to them in time they may cancel your policy

You will have two years' no claims bonus. If you do change companies, the new insurer will ask you to send them proof of your bonus entitlement. Tell your old insurer to send this to you, then forward the document to the new company.

On your renewal notice from your current insurer it will state how many no-claims bonus you are entitled to.
This can be used as verification to a new insurer.

You don't normally get any kind of certificate. If you are claiming that you have a year's no claims, your new insurer will contact your old insurer to verify this. That's one of the things that you are paying for in the hiked up prices!!
