Yep
As stated ANPR.
In Reading I saw a mobile enforcement van by DVLA and a couple of police cars and a couple of car transporters, they were stopping the cars without doccumentation getting the owners to sign releases to avoid prosecution and then loading the cars up onto the awaiting car transporters which had a sign stating these cars had been surrendered under 136 of the RTA and highways act and were being transported for crushing... Only one of the cars was a tatty 10 year old ford fiesta, the rest were quality cars at least two were 3 year old BMW's and one was a MERC of 3 years..
So no insurance means NO CAR!!!!

A centralised database is now in operation in the UK whereby all vehicles licensing, MOT and insurance details are logged. The system is still relatively new, but most vehicles are now included - this is one reason why you can now renew your car tax online without having to provide paper copies of your MOT or insurance certificates to anyone.

Yes! By UK law Insurance companies are required to enter all car insurance details within 14 days, on the DVL national data base which can be accessed by the police with reference to the the cars registration number. Insurance companies that don't do this can be fined £5000.00. The police can then get the information from the DVL even while following you.

Yes, very easily. Thankfully the law and procedure is swinging firmyl in the way of the law abiding majority in this respect. The Police national computer can tell instantly if a vehicle is insured or not, if you are stopped without insurance, your car will be confiscated there and then and you will have to pay hefty charges to retrieve it, of course obly after you ahve insured it. In addition you will also receive a fixed penalty notice consisting of a £200 fine and 6 points on your licence.

In the UK yes, simple check on the Police national Computer which is tied into the DVLA database will tell us.
Then its a section 165 seizure, £200 fine and 6 points on your licence.
Then there is the cost of £105 pounds to get your car out of the compound provided you come with a valid insurance certificate bearing in mind that will cost you a small fortune when you tell the insurance company you are buying new insurance off you just got 6 points for no insurance.

Possibly. In California, you cannot register a car without insurance. So those who used to go get insurance JUST to register their car are finding out that NOW the insurance carriers are obligated to notify the DMV if the insurance lapses. Then they suspend your registration.
Cops routinely run your license plates at a stoplight. No joke, I got pulled over because I have an unusual last name and someone else with a similar name had a warrant, and they wanted to know if I knew the other person!
Anyway, if they run your tags and find out that your registration is suspended, you can get in lots of trouble.

Many states have insurance information on a data base which is accessible by the police upon running tag numbers. Not showing on the data base would be a reason to be stopped, and asked to show your hard copy of your insurance coverage.
But the answer is "Yes, in many cases."

Yes, most 'Traffic Cars' have the ANPR system installed. (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) - it can read 5 a second....and it cross references then live with a database.
Originally developed for fixed cameras as 'anti terrorist' use (London IR.A.)
So yes, by simply driving past a police car you can be pulled & charged.

Yes and it can be done by camera now .
As the car passes the camera it checks car insurance, road tax and mot automatically
It sounds an alarm if all not in order and the bobbies stop you a few hundred yards along the road.
The Police use it round my way regularly and they set the camera vans up on all the access roads in the area at once so you cant avoid them..
The seem pretty successful at it as there are always about 4 cars being booked on each road at a time when I pass going to work.

In the UK, the answer is YES. Don't do it, you're making things more expensive for the honest ones among us, and if you get caught it'll just make it even more expensive for you in future.
