Yes, you can drive in NY with a PA license, however, in most states you have about 30 days to establish residency once you move there. This means you must change over your car title, tags, insurance, and license. The total cost for all of this is typically 300 bucks or more (I just did a across-states-line move and spent 325 bucks changing my residency). So for 30 days you are fine with the PA license but you need to switch it to a NY license soon after moving.

Moved up to Alaska with a friend back in 2005 and my friend got pulled over in 2006 with a D.C license and me with a N.H state ID. They found out that we were actually living here and threatened even me with a ticket for not switching it over to Alaska. So it is very possible that you will need to change it to NY by going down to the DMV and filling out some forms... but if you are concerned just look up NY's laws and see what they say about not switching over your license.

only for 30 days (max.) from when you signed the lease. after that you are illegal and subject to arrest and even sometimes jail. don't wait until the last minute. you have to surrender it when you apply for a new state's license.

I think you can only drive around another state if you are going to be gone for 5 or 10 days, but if you are going to be moving, you might want to go to the local DMV in Pennsylvania and ask, you will very likely have to go anyways. Good luck in NYC.

Yes of course if you are passing through or visiting.
However if you MOVE and set up residence you need to get a new ticket. You also need to turn in your old licence. It is illegal to have two state licence. They have data base and trying to get two resident licence is probably very illegal. I have found the demand you turn in your old DL when you get a new one. With 9/11 expect to show some evidence you live in the state (utility bills with your name on it) and some citizen documentation, like SS card, birth certificate or passport.
If you move to a state temporally you can get a state ID in that state. There are exceptions for the military, which allows them to keep their licence in a home state while living else where.
If you move to a new state you can expect to go through the whole meal deal driver test, written, eye and even a driver test depending on age.

Your driver license is fine in NYC, or anywhere, but when you plan to stay in a state, there is a time period that you have to get a license from that State.
Call the DMV.

You can use it briefly, but if you are going to be a full-time resident in the state of New York, you will need to get a NY driver's license and register your vehicle there, AND inform your insurance company of the new address, so your rates might change.

You have 90 days to report a change of permanent address on your drivers license. If the change of address is in another state, you must be licensed in that state and surrender your PA license.

You probably have 30 days to obtain a NY State license...but double check b/c it may vary state-to-state. You'll also need to register your vehicle in NY (and get tags) and have a NY state inspection.....don't forget to switch car insurance as well. I believe it is 30 days for all...but like I said, double check with the DMV & insurance company.

If you change your residence then you are required by law to get the license from the new state. If you move to another street in the same city, you are required by law to update your license.

Yes - you can drive here (I live in NYC).
But you are suppose to get a new license within something like 30 days of the move. But in my experience many people delay that for years. That way they don't have to
If you get pulled over, just tell the cops that you keeps TWO resident - one in NYC and one in Penn (where your parents live?)
===
I once move to NJ but returned to NYC once a month. So when I got pulled over (by NJ cop) he stated that I must switch licenses. But when I mentioned that I also live in NYC / "traveled back every weekend", he had to let me go.
Good luck...
P.S. You should know that if you keep a car with out of state plates, it wil be targetted for lot of car break ins. They always assume that (1) you have "stuff" in the trunk (2) you won't stick around to press charges / go to court if they get caught. Some of my friends who visits us from NJ were always getting their cars broken into. Then it dawned on us they all have NJ plates.
